Specifically, once this human body is born, it is certain to die. There is no certainty as to when one will die. There is no way to stop death. Each of these has three reasons. Guru Padmasambhava said: In order to cultivate diligence in Dharma, meditate on death and impermanence. First, death is certain, for three reasons: birth ultimately leads to death, the body is a composite of aggregates, and it does not stay still day or night. Similarly, there are three uncertainties as to when one will die: life is uncertain, the body has no essence, and there are many causes of death. There are also three things that cannot be stopped at the time of death: the love of loved ones cannot stop it, accumulated wealth cannot stop it, and the strength of courage and wisdom cannot stop it. Thus it is said. In short, if this precious human body, once obtained, would not perish, that would be enough. All beings born in the three realms have not escaped death. As it is said in the sutra: "Whatever has come and will come into being, all will abandon this body and depart. The wise should realize that all of that will perish." Thus it is said. From the beginning of the kalpa in the past until now, so many beings, high, low, and intermediate, have passed away, and not one has remained alive. All of these present beings will also leave behind empty names within a few years, and not one will remain. As Ashvagosha said: "On earth or in the heavens, has anyone been born and not died? Have you seen, heard, or doubted it?" Thus it is said. The causes of death are very many, such as disease, weapons, poison, etc., and even the food and medicine that one relies on for sustenance can become causes of death. In short, just like encountering Rahu, there is no certainty that one will not die right now. As it is said: "Have you finished your work? The Lord of Death will not wait. Whatever sacred Dharma needs to be accomplished, strive to do it today." Thus it is said. The Holy One said: "In a moment of carelessness, the Lord of Death, the demon, will seize you. Practice now, Dingriwa!" Thus it is said. If one thinks that there is nothing to fear even if one dies now, it is because one has not considered the law of karma. Because the results of karma are unfailing, one will be reborn in the six realms. As it is said in the Sutra of Advice to the King: "When the time comes for the king to depart, enjoyment, friends, and relatives will not follow. Wherever beings dwell, wherever they go, it is according to

follows like a shadow. Thus it is. Third, contemplating the suffering of samsara, abandon the activities of this world and seek only liberation. Wherever one is born in the high or low realms of samsara, just as the nature of fire does not deviate from heat, it is only the nature of suffering. That is, from the very moment this aggregate of appropriation is formed, it is established as the nature of suffering, pervading the suffering of conditioning. All the happiness of samsara, such as gods and humans, ultimately impermanent and changing, is the suffering of change. On top of the suffering of conditioning that pervades everything, being tormented by the great suffering of the three lower realms and so on is the suffering of suffering. Therefore, wherever one is born in the three realms and six classes of beings, it is only the nature of suffering, which is the meaning taught in all the sutras, tantras, and treatises. Gathering the meaning, the Omniscient Longchenpa said: Ema, the end of samsara is immeasurable and difficult to fathom. The suffering of those exhausted on the path of existence is that wherever they are born, there is no happiness at all, but the unbearable fruit produced by non-virtue. One's own distorted appearances are like dreams and illnesses. The nature of experiencing them individually in the six realms is that suffering is immeasurable due to the delusion of non-existence. Thus, this place of samsara is the nature of great suffering, like a house on fire, like being among wild beasts and savages, like a king's prison. He himself said: Just as beings are trapped in fire, among wild beasts and savages, like in a king's prison, suffering is continuous from past to future, and there is still no opportunity for liberation, increasing sorrow. Nagarjuna also said: Since samsara is like that, in gods, humans, hell beings, hungry ghosts, and animals, birth is not good, birth is, know that it becomes a container of many harms. Dampa said: If you remember the faults of samsara, your heart will race. There is no laughter here, Dingriwa. So it is said. Therefore, we now cannot bear even a spark of fire touching our bodies, nor can we bear the cold of a winter morning, nor can we bear a day's hunger. It is meaningless to hope to be able to bear the suffering of the six realms. The Omniscient Longchenpa said: Now, if you cannot bear even a little suffering,
