Om. May you be fortunate enough to obtain the Nirmanakaya fruit. Red light radiates from the Ah (Tibetan: ཨཱཿ, Sanskrit Devanagari: आ, Sanskrit Romanization: ā, Chinese literal meaning: Ah) at the throat. By dissolving into one's own throat, one obtains the secret empowerment. Purify the defilements of speech. Empowered to meditate on the path of channels and winds. May you be fortunate enough to obtain the Sambhogakaya fruit. Blue light radiates from the Hum (Tibetan: ཧཱུྃ, Sanskrit Devanagari: हुं, Sanskrit Romanization: hūṃ, Chinese literal meaning: Hum) at the heart. By dissolving into one's own heart, one obtains the empowerment of wisdom and knowledge. Purify the defilements of mind. Empowered to meditate on the path of bindus. May you be fortunate enough to obtain the Dharmakaya fruit. Again, white, red, and blue lights radiate from the three places. By dissolving into one's own three places, one obtains the fourth empowerment. Purify the defilements of knowable objects. Empowered to meditate on the path of Mahayana. Thinking that one is fortunate enough to obtain the Svabhavikakaya fruit, after receiving the four empowerments. The lama dissolves into oneself, inseparable, abandoning the thought of duality, viewing appearances and sounds as the play of the lama, and praying to the ultimate truth with all one's mind. Finally, dedicate this virtue, etc. The benefits of this are also: From the Tantra of the All-Gathering Precious One: Whoever, In hundreds of thousands of kalpas, Meditates on hundreds of thousands of deities, Is superior to slightly remembering the lama, This merit is limitless. And from the Five Stages: If something falls from the peak of the mountain king, Even if one thinks it will not fall, it will fall. Having received the prophecy of benefit through the kindness of the lama, Even if one does not want to be liberated, one will be liberated. And from the Tantra of the Wish-Fulfilling Supreme One: Whoever regards the lama as the desired deity, Meditating on the crown of the head, Is better than a thousand mandalas of Buddhas, Placed in the palm and circling the three thousand worlds. Better than dissolving into the heart a thousand times, One can withstand hundreds of thousands of calamities and storms. So forth. These mostly come from the mantra path, therefore they are called common preliminaries. Second, the uncommon preliminaries of one's own tradition are two: the individual hidden instructions and the general ordinary teachings. The first has two: training in unattached winds and training in attached bindus. The first has five: training in the color of the wind, similarly, training in the shape, number, entry and exit, and the combination of the vase, etc. The first is: the body is endowed with the seven dharmas of Vairochana, exhaling the impure air nine times, inhaling new

Among the three steadfast grasps, the object of focus is: At one's own brow center, visualize the essence of all winds gathered, its shape round, its color white and shimmering, about the size of a white mustard seed. Direct your awareness to this and meditate on it for a long time. Once familiar, gradually meditate on your own head as being the same. Then, the size of your body. Then, all the surroundings near you. Finally, keep your mind on all appearances, including the three thousand worlds, as being white and shimmering. Practice this repeatedly. Signs of accomplishment include the body becoming light like cotton, free from insects, the power of speech blazing, the throat and tongue feeling comfortable, the mind abiding, and samadhi increasing, among many other qualities. Second, training in shape: At the brow center or the tip of the nose, meditate on a round wind-bindu, bluish-gray, about the size of a bean. Keep the gaze of your eyes fixed on it as well. Because the breath is slow and long, exhale slowly, visualizing the bindu moving outwards in a smooth, round manner, and the body and mind becoming empty and spacious. As you inhale, visualize the bindu coming to the brow center, and the body feeling cool. If the body tends to be cold or is cold and shivering, then visualize the bindu as warm and hot. The measure of familiarity with this is when a feeling of heat or discomfort arises at the brow center, indicating that the mind is focused and you are able to settle on the object of focus as desired. Third, training in number: Maintain the body posture as before, and train the awareness to be one with the movement of the breath. As the breath goes out, direct the awareness to it and meditate at the same time. Do the same as it comes in. In this way, count the number of breaths going in and out as one. Since there are 21,600 breaths in a day and night, divide it into sessions, and it is crucial not to let the awareness wander between each hundred. Then, as thoughts subside, and the movement of the breath, the inhalation and exhalation, are slowly lengthened, eventually abiding for a long time, the body becomes comfortable and light, you do not feel the breath moving in and out, and the wind can settle wherever you direct it, then that is the measure of accomplishment. Fourth, training in coming and going: Visualize your body as empty and clear, like a blown glass, clear inside and out. In the center of your navel, visualize a skull cup, white on the outside and red on the inside, and within it, a blue wind-vajra.
