It is exactly like that. If you do not obtain this, let alone liberation, there is no other way to even obtain the small fruit of happiness in the heavenly realms. Chandra Gomin said: The path of the Sugatas, which has become the means to guide beings, is what people can obtain with great mental strength. That path, gods and nagas cannot obtain, nor can asuras, khading rigdzin, humans, non-humans, and those who crawl on their bellies. The human body is extremely difficult to obtain, and once obtained, one should diligently practice those things that are meaningful. Also, the great scholar said: This precious human body with leisure and endowment, which is difficult to obtain, is extremely difficult to obtain no matter which aspect you examine, whether it be cause, condition, example, or number. All the victorious ones rely on it. Therefore, thinking about the difficulty of obtaining leisure and endowment, generate joy like a poor person finding a treasure. Day and night, without being idle, one should practice the sacred Dharma. Thus it is said. In this way, the human body jewel, which possesses the eighteen qualities of leisure and endowment, is like a wish-fulfilling jewel, which can give birth to all that is desired and needed. Difficult to obtain, it is like a star in the daytime. Easy to perish, it is like an autumn flower. Because it distinguishes the boundary between rising and falling, it is like a fork in the road. Because it serves as the basis for all roots of virtue, it is like fertile land. It is the ladder to ascend to the heavenly realms and liberation. Because it can accumulate sins and non-virtuous deeds, it is like an unclean vessel. Because it can cause one to fall into samsara and the lower realms, it is like a whetstone. Therefore, we now, like a poor person obtaining a wish-fulfilling jewel, at this time when we have once obtained a perfect support that can accomplish extraordinary wishes. Before, so much was wasted meaninglessly. Now, in any case, we must not let it be wasted and empty, but like igniting the fire of a great kalpa with diligence, we must use our body, speech, and mind for the sacred Dharma. That is to say, all of our actions and behaviors in this life are endless and of little meaning. Other than the sacred Dharma, there is nothing else that can continuously benefit us until death. Do not be attached to relatives, friends, enjoyments, etc. in this life, but strive only to grasp the path of liberation. If you do not strive in this way, then the boatman in the ocean

It is more foolish than returning empty-handed from an island. Even if not dead, it is like a corpse; even if not possessed by a ghost, it is like a madman; even if not breathless, it is definitely like a zombie. As stated in the Bodhisattvacaryāvatāra: "This leisure is extremely difficult to obtain." And: "Having obtained such leisure, if I do not practice virtue, then there is no greater deception, nor is there greater ignorance than this." And as the great scholar said: "Like the rare Udumbara flower that is hard to find again and again, like a wish-fulfilling jewel that is obtained with value, now in this time when all the perfect conditions are met, strive with diligence to transcend samsara." And as the Omniscient Great One said: "Having obtained the leisure of human existence, and at this time encountering the true and supreme Dharma, if you do not ascend the ladder of liberation and happiness, it will be extremely difficult to obtain a body of leisure in the future." And as stated in the Secret Inconceivable Sutra: "The appearance of Buddhas in the world is a hundred thousand kalpas, this human body is obtained by this assembly of causes. Alas! Faith and listening to the Dharma, such things are difficult to obtain even in a hundred thousand kalpas." As it is said, when there is a boat, one should cross the river; when there is a heroic army, one should subdue the enemy. Just as when water, fertilizer, warmth, and moisture are abundant, one must sow seeds, now, at this time when all the conducive conditions for practicing the path are fully present, do not let everything be in vain. For the sake of the fundamental plan of future lives, one must think intensely: Should I not practice the genuine Dharma? Second, the instruction on impermanence of death is: When obtaining leisure, do not be lazy and procrastinate, thinking of doing it tomorrow or the day after tomorrow. Do not be like a snake entering the lap of a coward, or like extinguishing a fire on the head of a beautiful woman, one must immediately practice with courageous diligence. The reason is that the conditions for death are many, and the conditions for living are few. The conditions for death are not such that this will happen and that will not happen. Some are bitten to death by wild animals, dogs, and so on; some, while going to obtain conducive conditions, are gored to death by yaks, dzos, and other horned animals; some are thrown from horses and so on and die.
