Even just contemplating the nature of momentary change, the coming of death is manifestly proven. Death is like a lightning flash in the sky, uncertain when it will come. In short, do not be swayed by laziness and procrastination with thoughts of "tomorrow" and "the day after tomorrow," not even for a moment. The reason is that although we have obtained this precious human existence, we are certain to die in the end. From birth onwards, there is only a slight difference in the length of life, and there are no beings who remain alive without dying, neither in the past, present, nor have we ever seen or heard of such a thing, and it is even impossible to have doubts about whether it exists or not. In short, like an animal being led to the slaughter, with each step, it gets closer and closer to death without realizing it, which is truly pitiful. Moreover, one cannot confidently think that one will not die even tonight. In short, what is born will die, what gathers will disperse, what accumulates will be exhausted, and what is high will fall. There is no escaping these four inevitable truths. Nowadays, there is no saying that the elderly can avoid death, nor that the young will not be struck down by death, nor that children are not ready to die. Death does not discriminate between old, middle-aged, and young. Therefore, all the circles of this life, relatives, friends, possessions, etc., although they seem to bring temporary happiness, nothing is permanent, like a good dream of someone who is fast asleep. What was not thought of before, one is now experiencing oneself. Now that I think about it, one should not remain idle even for a moment. Although everyone knows that death will eventually come, the thought that one will not die for the time being arises until the very moment of death. Obscured by this evil thought, one is distracted by the mere distractions of this life, and the leisure and opportunity are wasted. Therefore, we are now in a time when the causes of death are raging like a fierce storm, like a butter lamp that remains unmoved by the wind. At this time, one must strongly think that for the sake of the future, one must definitely practice the genuine Dharma that is true and unfailing. As it is said in the Sutra of Advice to the King: "When the time comes, even the king will depart, wealth and friends will not follow, where will the person dwell,

Also go. Karma follows like a shadow. And so on. Nagarjuna said: The earth and Mount Sumeru, the ocean and the seven suns, even these sentient beings burned by fire, even ashes will not become bodies again, let alone extremely weak people? As Ashvaghosa said: On earth or in the heavens, are there some who are born and do not die? Have you seen, heard, or doubted it? As the sutra says: No matter where you go, there is no place where you can escape death. It is not in the sky, not in the depths of the ocean, not even if you enter the caves of all the mountains. Omniscient Dharma Lord said: This life is impermanent like a clay pot. The appearance of the next life and the afterlife, we do not know which will come first, therefore, today we must accumulate the precious treasures of the holy Dharma. The Bodhisattvacharyavatara says: It is unreasonable to live in comfort thinking that one will not die today. The great teacher also said: This life is impermanent like autumn clouds, friends and relatives are like guests at a market, the Lord of Death is like the shadow of dusk, the next life is like summer fish fry, the appearance of this life is like last night's dream, the enjoyment of sensual pleasures is like a magic feast, meaningless actions are like ripples in water. In short, the end of birth is death, the end of companionship is also separation, the end of accumulation is exhaustion, and the end of prosperity is decline. The Heart Drop says: Even if you obtain it in this way, it is not eternal, because the order of old, young, and middle is uncertain, like a lamp in the wind, a water bubble, a bird on a treetop, similarly there is no leisure, abandon the mind of immortal permanence, contemplate death with strong renunciation, practice the Dharma from the heart, and abandon the distractions of this life. The Saint said: In the gap of distraction, the Lord of Death will seize you, practice now, Dingriwa! Therefore, we do not know which will come first, tomorrow or the afterlife. All the actions and behaviors of this life are never finished, and their meaning is small. After death, only the holy Dharma is continuously beneficial, and nothing else. Therefore, when will I die? Do not abide in this way in Shamatha-Vipassana, in all post-meditation states, contemplate death and impermanence.
