Intense suffering arises from the severing and cutting of limbs. At that time, the gods, even if their heads and below their waists are struck fatally, can revive. But the Asuras, like humans, die from being struck fatally. At that time, images appear on the golden ground, reflected in the lake called "All-Appearing," and it is said that relatives are tormented by grief even before the war ends. Furthermore, most Asuras belong to the dark side and therefore do not believe in the Dharma. Even if some believe, they are obscured by the veils of karmic ripening, so they have no time to discern the distinctions. Moreover, there are four types of Asuras: the race of long-lived and wealthy gods, the vicious race of nagas, the life-slaying race of rakshasas, and the powerful race of yakshas—almost all of them are only on the dark side. Therefore, one thinks, even if born in the realm of the Asuras, one must experience such suffering! Third, the instruction on contemplating the suffering of the gods is as follows: First, the gods of the desire realm indulge immoderately in their own objects of desire, and even then, they are not satisfied, but also indulge immoderately in the objects of desire of others. Having indulged immoderately in objects of desire in this way, eventually, without realizing that their lifespan is decreasing, the signs of death gradually appear. The uncultivated crops also naturally wither, the bathing ponds also dry up, the wish-fulfilling cows also die, and the wish-granting trees also naturally wither. Then, an unprecedented black stain forms on the body, the garlands of flowers also become old, and both armpits rot. They no longer desire to sit on the lotus seat, but always desire to wander around. At that time, their own goddesses, sons of gods, and so on abandon them and go to other gods. There, the gods, due to having contaminated clairvoyance, know that they are going to die, and also know that they must experience the intense suffering of the lower realms. They experience the suffering of falling like sifting fish with a sieve, and they must experience it for seven days in the divine realm. Moreover, the chance of being born in the heavens after death is extremely rare, and the chance of being born as a human is even less. Most are born in the lower realms, and knowing that they must endure that unbearable suffering for a long time, unbearable suffering arises. As it says in the *Dran Nye Sutra*: "The suffering that arises from falling from the heavenly realm, even one-sixteenth of the suffering of beings in hell cannot endure."

Also, in the "Letter to a Friend," it says: "Even Indra, who is worthy of offerings in the world, falls to the earth again due to the power of karma. Even if one becomes a universal monarch, one will become a slave in samsara." It is said. Furthermore, when seeing the great fortune of the gods, those with less fortune become depressed and feel inferior. The powerful gods drive the weaker ones from their dwellings, which is suffering. In particular, the Four Great Kings and the gods of the Thirty-Three constantly fight and argue with the Asuras, and their bodies are cut, chopped, and killed by weapons, and they must endure unimaginable suffering. Although the realms of form and formlessness do not manifest the suffering of suffering, they do not transcend the nature of the suffering of conditioning. Like being intoxicated by samadhi, the merits of ordinary beings cannot increase. Because they are intoxicated by samadhi, they cannot bear to leave the flavorful samadhi. Then, their respective samadhis decline and they die. The ordinary beings who live there above, when the momentum of their previous karma is exhausted, are reborn in the desire realm again. When they previously relied on worldly samadhi for practice, it seemed as if they were dwelling comfortably in the formless realm of samadhi at that time, but they cannot be trusted, just as an arrow shot into the sky will eventually fall to the ground. When the power of contaminated virtuous karma is exhausted, they will fall into the lower realms again. The "Letter to a Friend" says: "Although the pleasures of the heavenly realms are very great, even after Brahma obtains the bliss of detachment, he becomes fuel for the fire of Avici hell again, and must endure continuous suffering." As such, therefore, no matter where one is born in the three realms of samsara, whether high or low, it is the suffering of suffering, the suffering of change, and the pervasive suffering of conditioning, and one does not transcend the wheel of suffering. Therefore, it is difficult to be liberated from such suffering of samsara, like a pit of fire. There is no opportunity for happiness, like a patient constantly suffering from stinging pain. Even if one experiences a little happiness, it will turn into suffering, like the fruit of the Kimpa tree.
