若降于中央，则为佛陀自明之光辉；如是，若降于东方，则为金刚自明之光辉；若降于南方，则为宝生自明之光辉；若降于西方，则为莲花自明之光辉；若降于北方，则为羯磨自明之光辉。如是安立秘密之名。若降于四隅，则说无有成就。从上师的心间，放射出智慧的光芒，如瀑布般倾泻而下，刹那间消除你们的突然迷乱之障蔽，愿你们获得清净大智慧之眼。 吽！如眼科医生之王，汝之无明迷乱之眼，被烦恼能取所取之翳障蔽，引导之胜王自身，于觉性智慧之界中开启，观看普贤五种姓之坛城。 如是解开眼罩。 奇哉！具缘种姓之子，看啊，看啊，观看坛城！莫散乱，以心观看坛城！我见种种景象，你见为何物？ 询问后，复诵此回答： 奇哉！奇哉！珍贵之上师，弟子以观视与观察，见上师为佛陀之本体，乃我之大皈依处。 上师又说： 看啊，具业与福缘者，此大坛城，以及坛城之陈设庄严，与同一入门之道友们，看啊，看啊，依次观看，理应生起殊胜之信心，你们见彼等为何物？ 询问后，复诵此回答： 奇哉！上师普贤，此大坛城，见为诸佛之清净刹土，如是彼等陈设之物，乃坛城本尊供养之所依，同一入门之道友们，乃开示密咒大乘之道。 如是，你们已远离无明之障蔽，故为显现之智慧大坛城之表义，务必铭记于心。以金刚或手杖为象征，中央圆形且白色者，乃法界不变之表义；八瓣莲花以美丽色彩存在者，乃具足五气清净之表义；四方形者，乃具足四大光明之表义；具足四门之四隅者，乃自身圆满四种事业之表义；五线之墙壁，乃具足五种智慧。

If it descends in the center, it is the self-illuminating radiance of Buddha; likewise, if it descends in the east, it is the self-illuminating radiance of Vajra; if it descends in the south, it is the self-illuminating radiance of Ratna; if it descends in the west, it is the self-illuminating radiance of Padma; if it descends in the north, it is the self-illuminating radiance of Karma. Thus, the secret names are established. If it descends in the four corners, it is said that there is no accomplishment. From the heart of the master, a beam of wisdom light radiates like a waterfall, instantly dispelling the veils of your sudden delusion, may you gain the eye of pure great wisdom. Ho! Like the king of eye doctors, your eye of ignorance and delusion, is obscured by the cataract of afflictions and grasping, the supreme guide, the king himself, opens it in the realm of awareness and wisdom, behold the mandala of the five families of Samantabhadra. Thus, the blindfold is removed. Alas! Son of a fortunate lineage, look, look, behold the mandala! Do not be distracted, behold the mandala with your mind! I see various sights, what do you see it as? After asking, repeat this answer: Alas! Alas! Precious Lama, the disciple, through observation and examination, sees the Lama as the essence of Buddha, my great refuge. The Lama then says: Look, you who have karma and fortune, this great mandala, and the arrangement and adornment of the mandala, and the spiritual friends who have the same entrance, look, look, look in order, may supreme faith arise, what do you see them as? After asking, repeat this answer: Alas! Lama Samantabhadra, this great mandala, I see as the pure land of the Buddhas, likewise, those arranged objects, are the supports for offering to the deities of the mandala, the spiritual friends who have the same entrance, are the path that reveals the Great Vehicle of Secret Mantra. Thus, since you have been separated from the veils of ignorance, it is the symbolic meaning of the great mandala of wisdom that has become manifest, so be sure to remember it. Symbolizing with a vajra or a staff, the central circle, which is white, is the symbol of the unchanging Dharmadhatu; the eight-petaled lotus, which exists in beautiful colors, is the symbol of possessing the purity of the five winds; the square shape, is the symbol of possessing the light of the four elements; the four corners with four doors, is the symbol of possessing the four activities complete in oneself; the wall of five lines, is the symbol of possessing the five wisdoms.

Being surrounded by a vajra fence is: a symbol of no birth, death, or change! Being surrounded by flames on the outside is: a symbol of burning afflictions in their own place! The overlapping of the umbrella and the Dharma wheel is: a symbol of subduing the knowable obscurations! Those are the preliminary practices for the empowerment.
