Separate the clear from the turbid, and wisdom will naturally arise. Then, repeat the same process as before with the wheel of emanation. Lower your gaze to the tip of your nose, look at your own face with your own eyes, and do not engage in conceptual analysis. Let mindfulness just grasp the object, and meditate in a natural state. When clarity intensifies, shatter it with (Tibetan: ཕཊ།, Sanskrit Devanagari: फट्, Sanskrit Romanization: phaṭ, Literal Chinese Meaning: Phat). Then, look again. At that time, even if the mind intentionally fabricates, it will not scatter, but will remain still and unwavering. Meditate on this for a day or as appropriate. Then, as before, engage the wheel of emanation. Generate vigor in awareness. Fix your gaze on the sky with a wide-eyed stare. Let awareness pass from the heart through the eyes and expand the focus on the vastness of the sky. Focus slightly, and meditate with the vigor of self-awareness, thereby subduing conceptual thoughts. Break through the boundaries of appearance and emptiness. At that time, the practice of calm abiding will be like an ocean undisturbed by the wind, still and without thought. Furthermore, as awareness separates the clear from the turbid, thoughts become coarser than before. Whatever arises, even a fleeting moment, is grasped by mindfulness. This is the practice of calm abiding, the sign of the wind-mind becoming gentle. Some meditators cling to this, often considering it the essence of meditation, but it is not entirely so. Then, the guru advises not to cling to abiding, not to view thoughts as faults, but to incorporate them into practice. In this way, one should skillfully guide based on the guru's experience. Then, one should skillfully guide the introduction to luminosity free from elaboration. In this, the nature of whatever arises is self-liberated as it arises, simultaneously liberated. However it moves and scatters, its essence is not established. Thoughts are clear and empty, naked and without object, arising from the self-power of emptiness. Inexpressible, free from elaboration. Yet, in reality, luminosity is unceasing, appearing as all things. Knowing the nature of appearances to be emptiness, without object, free from mind, and inseparable from its meaning, is called insight. In this way, for any length of time, the guru will ask questions and have them meditate. When meditating in this way, at first, abiding is relatively comfortable, and some may develop a slight attachment. How to break this? Whatever thoughts arise, they are clear and empty, self-liberated as they arise, liberated as they appear. Have confidence in yourself, feel amused, and no matter what appears, there is no clinging, let it go completely. Ultimately, a state of inner peace, decisiveness, and firmness will arise. Then, the guru will continue to ask questions based on experience, ultimately making a final determination.
