The clinging of will not fall into samsara. Ultimately, speech Vajra transforms into the Sambhogakaya, inseparable. Third, the preliminary practices of the mind are threefold. As stated in the Madhyamaka: The mind, where does it first arise, where does it dwell in the middle, and where does it go in the end? By examining these three in this way, the mind is tamed, and the nature of the mind is known. As it is said, first examine where the mind arises: What is called mind, the knower who experiences all happiness and suffering, the moving and restless one, from where does it arise? Does it arise from the external container and its contents? If it is thought to arise from any of the external four elements, can it be found by breaking each of them down into atoms and searching? If it is thought to arise from the internal self, can it be found by searching from its parts? If it is thought to arise from emptiness, can the place of arising be established? If it is thought to arise from appearance, can its object be found? In short, examine the mind to be sought externally, and look back at the mind of the seeker internally. Until the self-face, which is free from all essence and characteristics, is not seen, repeatedly investigate and question. Second, examine where the mind dwells: As before, where does the mind dwell, in the external container and its contents, in the parts of the body, etc.? How can it be represented by shape, color, function, or essence? If none of these can be established, then by looking back at the knowing consciousness, although consciousness is clear and apparent, its self-nature is not established. Repeat the process until it is confirmed that it is without foundation or root. Third, examine where the mind goes: When the mind suddenly arises and then suddenly disappears, where does it go? Upon examination, there is no place for the mind to go in the external container and its contents, appearance and emptiness, existence and non-existence, etc. The nature of the mind, which is the subject, cannot be determined as this or that, because it is free from all essence and characteristics. Therefore, the place of going and the mind that goes are not established. Repeat the process until it is confirmed that it is free from awareness-emptiness, coming and going. The purpose of these is threefold: commonly, they purify the sins of the mind and pacify obstacles; especially, they reverse the clinging of the mind and prevent falling into samsara; ultimately, the mind Vajra transforms into the Dharmakaya, inseparable. As it is said in "Klong gsal": The preliminary practices of body, speech, and mind, common, special, and ultimate, should be known as having these three purposes. As it is said, the first two purposes just mentioned are common, and the latter is supreme.
