Extreme faith, not to be taken away by trivial causes, is ultimate faith, the complete cause for blessings to quickly enter. In terms of accomplishing unsurpassed enlightenment, having great unwavering resolve, and firmly committing to diligence without procrastination or laxity, it is easy to generate realization. Regarding the meaning of profound truth, having clear wisdom to discern, thereby cutting off wrong paths. Attachment to worldly pleasures such as food and clothing has been reversed, thereby severing the ties of this life. Having single-minded devotion to the lama and deity, blessings naturally enter. Regarding the path of secret mantra, having cut off the bonds of doubt, thereby entering profound practice. Not engaging in ordinary conceptualizations such as attachment and aversion, therefore the mind is stable and not distracted. Upholding the root and branch vows, not transgressing the precepts taken. Regarding the meaning of truth, having diligence without weariness in meditation and practice. Therefore, those who possess these qualities are said to be vessels for this profound path. Therefore, those who possess such qualities should be taken as the object of teaching. Where should a student who possesses these qualities practice? In "Vast Expanse of Luminosity" it says: "In the midst of snow mountains, empty valleys, on mountain peaks, in cemeteries, in extremely secluded, pure and high places, is the place for fortunate individuals to practice." Therefore, the place of practice should be naturally auspicious, with few people passing by and little noise, free from the dangers of enemies and thieves, and with suitable earth and water, so that meditation naturally increases. One should rely on such a place. When should one practice? In the same text it says: "Late summer and autumn, early winter and spring, the two times of sunshine are said to be the best times." Therefore, at these times, the coolness and warmth are balanced, there are fewer causes for dullness and agitation, it is easy to arise manifest wisdom, and it is easy to recognize one's nature. One should act accordingly. What kind of companions should one rely on? In the same text it says: "Associate with companions who possess pure vows, have great pure appearances, have weak five poisons, are broad-minded, patient, and loving." Therefore, one should rely on those who have experience in the practice of the profound path, or, even if not, one should rely on those who are peaceful and gentle, have pure vows, have pure vision, have weak afflictions, are loving, and do not tire of creating favorable conditions for practice.
