DO! Without distraction of mind, place it in the aperture of the vajra chain of awareness sparks. The key is to unite all of that equally, without separation between space and awareness. Thus, as an aid to generating the path, the path of Tögal is to be practiced by an individual who is accustomed to the view of Trekchö. In that, first, the three postures of the body are the ways of abiding of the three kāyas. Second, the three ways of looking are: the way of looking of the dharmakāya is like looking at the crown of the head. The way of looking of the sambhogakāya is like an archer straightening an arrow shaft. The way of looking of the nirmāṇakāya is like a hermit meditating in samādhi. Third, without distraction of mind, placing it in the aperture of the vajra chain of awareness sparks is: Thus, by means of any of the three postures and ways of looking, one restrains the key points of the doors, objects, wind, and awareness. The key point of the arising door is based on the inner space, the kati crystal tube, that is, the light channel connected from the heart to the eye. The key point of the object of arising is the outer space, emptiness, which is free from the three conditions that cause defilement. Based on such key points, in the state of naked, empty, clear, uncompounded space and awareness, in a state free from all grasping and focusing, in the morning in the east and in the evening in the west, one looks at the sky about a cubit high in the sunlight. Or, if it harms the eyes, in the morning in the west and in the evening in the east, one concentrates the three—mind, eyes, and wind—into one point and places all the thoughts of grasping and fixation into the aperture of the vajra chain of awareness sparks. Fourth, all of that is also uniting space and awareness equally without separation. The signs of the path of the four lamps and the four visions are the same as in other treatises. The rest of that is the three instructions on the supporting basis, and the two ways of releasing the ninefold activities of outer and inner. The first has three: establishing the base with the three immovables, measuring the limit with the three abidings, and fixing the peg with the three attainments. The first is: at the time of the manifestation of dharmatā, the body does not move from the three postures, the eyes do not move from the three ways of looking, and awareness does not waver from space. Second, measuring the limit with the three abidings is: at the time of the increase of experience, outer appearance

External abiding makes adversity appear as a friend; internal abiding in the illusory body exhausts the activities of delusion; secret abiding in the wind-mind pacifies conceptual thoughts into the expanse. Third, fixing with the three attainments: When awareness reaches its culmination, by gaining mastery over external appearances, appearances are liberated into the pure lands; by gaining mastery over the internal aggregates, the illusory body is elevated into luminosity; by gaining mastery over secret thoughts, the arising of thoughts is liberated into the expanse. When the nature of reality is exhausted, the extent of liberation of the four confidences is shown as: Once the confidence is gained that all phenomena of the three paths of samsara and nirvana do not move away from awareness, then there is no hope of attaining nirvana upwards, nor doubt of not attaining it; and no doubt of falling downwards into samsara, nor hope of not falling, this is gaining the four confidences. Second, the way to relinquish the ninefold activities of outer and inner is: At the time of the direct realization of the nature of reality, abandon the actions of the ordinary three doors of body, speech, and mind; at the time of increasing experience, abandon the prostrations and circumambulations of the body, the reading of scriptures of speech, and the mind's thoughts of renunciation, etc.; at the time of the culmination of awareness, abandon the mudras of the body, the mantra recitations of speech, and the complete stage with signs of the mind, etc., this is abandoning the ninefold activities of outer and inner. Second, the instructions for liberation in the intermediate state have two parts: The oral instructions for merging into the expanse of awareness at the time of death, and the practice of the intermediate state of reality. The first has two parts: the merging into the expanse of awareness, and the oral instructions for the transference of consciousness of wind-mind. The first is: If the supreme state is not accomplished in this very life, then one should pass into peace through the union of the three aspects of space. Generally, the practice of the intermediate state has four oral instructions: In the intermediate state of nature and birth, cutting off doubts about hearing and thinking is like meeting a person one is familiar with from the past; in the intermediate state of dying, clarifying what is unclear is like showing a mirror to a beautiful woman; in the intermediate state of reality, recognizing one's own appearances is like a child entering its mother's lap; in the intermediate state of existence, continuing the progress of the path is like a fox entering a broken irrigation ditch. Here, the way to enter into peace with the intention of the three aspects of space at the time of death is: If the state is not accomplished in this life, and death cannot be prevented by death-cheating, etc., then the body should adopt the lion posture, etc.
