What is called mind is nothing more than the current moment of thought, which seems to arise and vanish like lightning. Where did this mind originally come from, from external or internal objects, or from something formless? If it is thought to arise from here, what is the source and manner of its arising? Where does it currently reside, internally and externally, and in the upper, middle, and lower parts of the body? If it is thought to reside in something like the heart, then where does that heart reside, in its upper, lower, edge, or center, and in what manner does its essence, color, and shape exist? What kind of place is the final place of cessation or the place of going? Look outward at the knowledge to be seen, and look inward at the mind that distinguishes. Are these two the same or different? Without being distracted for even a moment, investigate thoroughly and then relax. In that state, if a thought suddenly arises, immediately seize it with mindfulness and ask, where did that thought come from? What is its form? Where does it go when it vanishes? Are it and the discriminator the same or different? Investigate and analyze with pure intelligence until the matter is not resolved, and you will find nothing and establish nothing. Knowing that it is beyond the extremes of existence and non-existence, although at first it seems to arise, since the basis of the one who comes is not established, there is no birth, which is the abiding of the Dharmakaya. Although in the middle it seems to abide, it does not abide in the form of either something material or immaterial, so there is no abiding, which is the nature of the Sambhogakaya. Although in the end it seems to cease, since the one who goes and the place to go are not specified, there is no cessation, and it is recognized as the nature of the Nirmanakaya. Therefore, the mind's clinging is reversed and liberated into the Dharmakaya, so the training of the mind and the distinction of the mind are completed in one part. Fourth, the key to expanding everything is: all of this arises from the expanse and is sent into the expanse, and not moving from the expanse is the key. It is said that when striving in all the preliminary practices of the three doors, it is important not to be bound by thoughts of attachment to self and mine, dualistic clinging, or characteristics, but to establish from the very beginning the view of primordial purity like the sky. Whether it is action, activity, or work, it initially arises from the expanse of primordial purity, free from elaboration, like a momentary appearance from the empty sky, like clouds bursting forth from the sky, but know that it is without self-nature. Finally, all of these also subside into the expanse of primordial purity, pacifying elaboration, just as clouds naturally dissipate in the sky, and are sent into the great state beyond thought, speech, and grasping.

No matter what kind of posture the three doors take, there is not even a particle of movement away from the nature of the primordially pure It is crucial to hold on to it by combining mindful awareness with effort or without effort, and to send it onto the path. Secondly, the main practice instruction is: The key to the spontaneous liberation of delusion in its own place is. It is said. There are four aspects to it: abiding like a mountain; abiding like an ocean; abiding in awareness; and the key to elaborating on all of these. The first is: The body remains unchanged, and the foundation is established by abiding like a mountain. This means that after the preliminary practices have been well mastered, at the beginning of the main practice, the meaning of the foundation of primordial purity, Trekchö, is put into practice. As the scripture says: Remain unmoving, stable like a mountain. As it is said, the body is like a yak whose tether has been cut, remaining in a natural and comfortable state. Whether walking, sitting, acting, moving, etc., never changing, like a mountain standing firm, naturally and spontaneously abide. For beginners, if the three doors are loosened too much, there is a danger of falling into ordinariness, so at times, one should not deviate from the seven-point posture. Also, depending on where the key to view and meditation lies, alternately tighten and loosen, and take this as the basis for samadhi. The second is: Speech remains silent, and abiding like an ocean is entrusted to it. This means that, as the scripture says: Remain unmoving, clear like an ocean. As it is said, speech is like cutting the strings of a lute, abandoning all speech, breath, and effort. Externally, the eyes do not move, the gaze slightly upward, staring into space. Internally, awareness, un fabricated and naked, is also entrusted to it, so that the expanse and awareness are united, subject and object are inseparable, in a state of clarity, luminosity, and freedom from grasping. Both inner and outer remain unmoving like a great ocean, calmly abiding, and focusing on this, entrust it to it. The third is: The mind is not distracted, and one practices abiding in awareness. This means that the mind is like cutting off the water behind a self-grinding mill, abandoning all the arising of conceptual thoughts, without being distracted in any way, either internally or externally, with the great abiding of awareness alone, one must practice abiding in the primordial expanse. If we divide this into detail, there are four: deciding with the view; experiencing with meditation; increasing with conduct; and the manner in which the signs of fruition appear. The first is: Like this.
