I say, for all of these, the body should be like a tigress leaping, the mouth should recite the letter ཨི (Tibetan: ཨི, Sanskrit Devanagari: इ, Sanskrit Romanized: i, literal Chinese meaning: Yi), and the mind should be hidden in the heart and practiced. Alternatively, without having learned the sound and meaning of the four elements, one sees various non-human forms, and one understands their meanings; for those, the body should be like a bird soaring, the mouth should recite the form of ཨུ (Tibetan: ཨུ, Sanskrit Devanagari: उ, Sanskrit Romanized: u, literal Chinese meaning: Wu), and the mind should meditate on emptiness of all inner and outer phenomena. Furthermore, prophecies are given by Ḍākinīs and others with adornments, Dharma speakers appear and disappear at times, formless yet appearing, not always appearing in all places of activity; for that, the body should take the majestic posture of a wrathful deity, the mouth should recite the form of Sanskrit Romanized: hrīḥ, literal Chinese meaning: Sha), and the mind should constantly meditate on the inconceivable forms of the deities; if that is done in the manner of expansion and contraction, it will become a sacred instruction. Those who do not possess such instructions will be deceived by obstructing demons, and in particular, the mind's appearance will turn into the realm of the pretas. Therefore, such key instructions should be highly valued. That is also a sign of transformation for those of the common vehicle; seeing the meaning of direct awareness, it will not transform in that way for those fortunate ones who practice. That is greatly manifested by the distinction of seeing objects. The signs of immutability should be understood as three. The sign that one sees but others do not see, the sign that others see but one does not see, and the sign that both oneself and others see, should be understood as three. Among them, the signs that others see are these; these do not arise merely from the manifestation of the self-essence of direct awareness. Those whose bodies are smooth, whose hair is white and without wrinkles, whose hair and nails do not grow, whose bodies cannot produce living beings, who are extremely swift, whose bodies have the marks of the Buddha's handprints, who can fly in the sky and do not sink in water, who can pass through mountains and rocks and are not obstructed by the sounds of the elements, are the signs of the body that others can see. The signs of the body that one feels but others do not feel are: the body is as light as a cottonwood petal, and then...

From the fifth day, one does not feel the breath going in and out; then, on the eleventh day, one is able to enter a state of non-reliance on anything; then, from the twenty-first day, there will be occurrences of clearly seeing one's own body. As for what both oneself and others can see: through the interdependent connection of what is thought in the mind, one is able to benefit others; wondrous flesh marks appear on the body; and one does not sink in water, etc. These are the signs of the body, and they arise merely from the prior pressing of the vital points of the body. Although there are many explanations of these external signs, most are uncertain. If some are certain, they belong to the category of what one cannot perceive oneself. These are the signs of the body. The signs of speech that others see are: whatever words are spoken benefit others; no erroneous words arise; then after some time, a state like being mute occurs; then after some time, words of various Dharmas spontaneously arise; these are the signs of speech that others can sense. What one senses oneself is: knowing various stories; then from the ninth day, knowing various discordant sounds; then from half a month, knowing various sectarian words; then from the eleventh day, knowing various views that hold the mind; then from the twenty-first day, knowing the languages of the six classes of beings, such as gods; then after half a month, knowing the languages of inanimate objects; then from the seventh day, knowing the speech of Hearers, Solitary Buddhas, and Bodhisattvas in three days respectively, this is the sign of speech. These are the signs that both oneself and others can see. The signs of the mind that both oneself and others can see are: what others can see is not sinking in water; flying in the sky; these two are the signs of the mind appearing on the body. What one can see oneself but others cannot sense is: great compassion continuously arises; then from one month, one can go to any place one thinks of, this is the sign of the mind appearing on the body; then from six months, the six abhijñās arise, these are the signs of the mind that one can see oneself. These are called external signs, and they are not permanent. The signs that others can see are: the body
