Even if there is a single clay figure (Sāca) on the roadside, do not let it be trampled, and place it where rain cannot reach. Even if one only has the Heart Sutra at home, offerings should be made to the Eight Thousand Verse Prajñāpāramitā Sūtra, generating faith. After taking refuge in the Sangha, merely seeing someone wearing yellow robes, believe them to be an emanation of the Bhagavan, generating faith and reverence, offering food, and requesting dedication and aspiration prayers. Do not let yellow robes be trampled, and generate faith simply by seeing them. These are the six common disciplines. Now, the five special disciplines are: Firstly, offering to the Three Jewels from what one eats and drinks; Secondly, not abandoning the Three Jewels for rewards or jokes; Thirdly, not seeking refuge from other sources during important matters; Fourthly, constantly striving in offerings, and if illness arises in the body while in a non-distracted state, making efforts in refuge, generating Bodhicitta, prostrations, etc.; Fifthly, prostrating to the gods who go as they please. Wherever one goes, practice Guru Yoga, and as you go, visualize the five families and other deities on the crown of your head, so that harm from evil spirits and threats from wild people and robbers will not come. This is called the five special disciplines. Now, the second, the three common disciplines are: Respect the Buddha and abandon disrespect; Respect the Dharma and abandon disrespect; Respect the Sangha and abandon disrespect. These are the disciplines of refuge. In general, the discipline of refuge is to be cautious about cause and effect. Without caution regarding cause and effect, one cannot attain Buddhahood through Dharma. Now, here are the instructions for taking refuge from the Mother Tantra of Dzogchen, the Secret Path of the Dakinis, practiced as follows: A Guru who possesses vows, should teach refuge in this way to a disciple who possesses the vessel. Moreover, this is not for the benefit of myself alone, but for the benefit of all sentient beings, contemplate that all the Kagyu lineage masters reside in the sky, and all sentient beings of the three realms and six classes, equal to the sky, take refuge in the Guru Buddha Dakini of appearance and emptiness! Repeat "the three realms and six classes" etc. The Guru of awareness and emptiness, the Vajra

O Vajra Dakini! Place! The precious Dakini, the guru of bliss and emptiness! Place! The Padma Dakini, the guru of clear emptiness! Place! The Karma Dakini, the guru of sound emptiness! Place! The Dharmakaya Guru, Vajravarahi! The Sambhogakaya Guru, Vajrayogini! The Nirmanakaya Guru, Yeshe Tsogyal! The three Kayas Guru, the kind mother Kunga Bum! The Kagyu Guru, Dungtso Repa! The meaning lineage Guru, Jawang Rangdrol! The practice lineage Guru, Surya Chandra! The learned and accomplished Guru, Sangye Wozer! All sentient beings of the three realms and six realms, as vast as the sky! I take refuge in the root guru, the kind one! These are the instructions for taking refuge! The guru who possesses samaya, to the student who is a worthy vessel, teaches the instructions for generating bodhicitta in this way! Furthermore, the precepts for generating bodhicitta are: First, aspiring to supreme bodhicitta is: For the sake of all sentient beings, such as beloved sons and daughters of emanation, fathers, mothers, the elderly, etc., it is not the coming and going of the body, but the aspiration for the mind to attain Buddhahood! Second, engaging in supreme bodhicitta is: Those monks and nuns who have entered the gate of the Buddha's teachings, and upwards, serving the gurus and teachers, and downwards, giving alms to the blind and deaf, secret Inviting the profound instructions and empowerments of mantra, and meditating on the generation and completion stages of the yidam deity, and writing and reading the words of the Buddha, and in short, striving in all white virtuous deeds is entering the Buddha, entering the Dharma, entering the Sangha! This is engaging in supreme bodhicitta! Now, ultimate supreme bodhicitta is: A man with karmic connections who ordains as a young man, possessing the Vinaya of the Shravakas, possessing the samaya of secret mantra, seeing the meaning of Dharmata, accomplishing the benefit of all self and others, that is ultimate supreme bodhicitta! Now, since bodhicitta and compassion are inseparable, it is not to be done for the sake of oneself alone, all sentient beings as vast as the sky are so pitiful! I have not been a father, I have not been a mother, and there is not one enemy who has not become a friend, so all are so pitiful! Of all sentient beings
