If we examine how its nature abides, then it does not come from anywhere outside, it does not abide anywhere, nor does it cease anywhere, it is merely the appearance of one's own mind as a deity. The six entering wisdoms of the six consciousnesses appearing on the objects, and the basis from which they arise—the alaya consciousness and the afflicted mind—these eight consciousnesses appearing as the body and wisdom of the deity are actually the base realm alaya consciousness, the self-born wisdom bodhicitta, the primordial Buddha dharmakaya or ultimate deity, from whose power or radiance, it appears in the form of obscurations, so its very nature is inseparable from it. Even this appearance as a deity now is due to the power of meditating with the mind, appearing as body, speech, and mind vajra, but if you search, you will not find its nature, so it cannot be judged as this or that, nor can it be pointed out, the ultimate nature is the dharmakaya. One should remember this. It is very important for such a yogi to abide by the six vows of practice: to regard the guru who shows the oral instructions as the actual Buddha, and to have an unbroken longing of devotion, this is the first. To accomplish those that are conducive and helpful to the practice of samadhi, this is the second. To abandon the unfavorable and adverse conditions, this is the third. In all activities such as walking, standing, sitting, and lying down, do not let the samadhi that is being practiced disappear from your mind, this is the fourth. Do not abandon the chosen deity that you are practicing, and bring that practice to its ultimate conclusion, and do not accept or reject any deity, whichever deity you practice, understand that the intention of all Buddhas is of one taste, so practicing one deity is practicing all Buddhas. The Buddha is not to be practiced apart from realizing one's own mind. The chosen deity is also the appearance of one's own mind, so there is nothing to be practiced or cultivated separately. In short, all Buddhas are contained within the chosen deity. Practicing many chosen deities is also the appearance of one's own mind, practicing one is also the appearance of one's own mind, understand this, this is the fifth. Keep the chosen deity that you are practicing, the purpose of the practice, and the activities extremely secret and hidden from those who are not vessels, this is the sixth. One should abide by these vows. These are about how to integrate the deity into meaning. The seventh meaning is to take the deity into the path and practice: Thus clear

Having attained realization and stabilized the generation stage, one should arrange the mandala of the practice of whichever deity is one's main deity, straighten the activities, and perform practices such as meditation, recitation, offering, praise, and tsok according to the scriptures. The signs of this are: Because the mind is focused on the deity, the consciousnesses of the senses are prevented from scattering to external objects. As a sign that the winds that are the mounts of the sense consciousnesses are about to reverse inward, the five signs of experience appear in the manner of experience, such as smoke, mirage, fireflies, lamps, and the sky. The five supreme signs are seeing Buddhas and Bodhisattvas in dreams, hearing the Dharma, and so on. As stated in the General Sutra, the Gathering of Intentions, the purification of sins, obscurations, and habitual tendencies; freedom from fear; attainment of the ground; subduing the ground; becoming a son of the Buddhas; obtaining power over the Dharma; seeing the truth; and the occurrence of prophecies are the eight auspicious signs that appear. When meditating on the deity, seeing the coarse objects of body, speech, and mind is the outer heat of joining. The movement of breath and the lack of sensation of the body are the inner heat of signs. Compassion and wisdom naturally arising are the secret heat of nature. One obtains these three heats. The image of the deity smiles, sounds, light, and fragrant smells appear, the lamp ignites itself, and the bindu pulsates itself are the outer signs. Great compassion, faith, and reverence arise, and partiality, attachment, and hatred diminish, and there is no hope or doubt are the inner signs that will appear. Even if they appear, one should meditate without pride or clinging. Thus, the result of the path, the four Vidyadharas, are obtained in sequence. One gains mastery over the six superknowledges and the four miracles. Ultimately, one will be joined to the state of the three kayas of the fully enlightened Buddha. These are the essential points briefly gathered for those of lower faculties. The general outline of the generation stage and the detailed content of each practice should be understood from other treatises. The second of the root [texts] is the practical instructions that are generally cherished for approach and accomplishment: That is, the basis of approach and accomplishment must be taken with the five perfections of place, time, person, equipment, and method of accomplishment. Among these, the first is the place: If it possesses the blessings of the previous [masters] and the perfection of auspiciousness, that is the best. Even if it does not possess them, the outer place, the inner practice room, and the secret dwelling should be free from the harm of earth enemies. In particular, it should not be defiled by sectarian conflicts, impure ground, broken vows, or violated commitments. It should not be possessed by great, vicious, and evil forces.
