Because of being too crude, sit in full lotus posture on a comfortable cushion, place a fine painted image of the Yidam deity in front, and arrange offerings. First, without thinking of anything, rest for a while in a state of non-conceptuality. Then, look from the head of that Thangka image down to the feet, and gradually look from the feet up to the head. Then, look at the entire body in general. Occasionally, rest in a state of non-conceptuality. Do this repeatedly, completing it in one day, and then sleep soundly at night. In the morning, get up and meditate as before. At night, do not meditate on the deity, but rest in a state of non-conceptuality. By doing this, even when not meditating, the image of the deity will appear clearly in the mind. If this happens, meditate in the mind without relying on the object of focus. If this does not happen, concentrate on the image and look at it, then close your eyes and see if the deity's image appears as clearly as before. If it is still unclear and hazy, open your eyes again and look at the image, making it clear. From the clear and bright appearance, cut off the flow of other conceptual thoughts and meditate without distraction. If the mind is very dull, then initially, even if the image of a tangible form such as a painted image, a relief, or a three-dimensional model does not arise, meditate on that (object). Once you are familiar with that (object), train in (the state) that is clear, transparent, unobstructed, like a rainbow, and that is merely an appearance, but when looking at its essence, it is unidentifiable, like an illusion. If the mind is sharp, then from the beginning, meditate on (the state) that is like a reflection, the union of appearance and emptiness. This is the first section, making the deity appear clearly. Second, making it stable. It is necessary to combine it with the five experiences of meditation: the experience of wavering, the experience of attainment, the experience of habituation, the experience of stability, and the experience of completion, these five. Among these, the first, the experience of wavering, is: when meditating in this way, the mind does not stay still, and many conceptual thoughts arise and flow, as if there are more conceptual thoughts than before, and thoughts arise one after another without ceasing. Previously, conceptual thoughts were unrecognizable, and one was lost in ordinariness, like not recognizing an enemy. But now, like recognizing an enemy, the mind rests slightly and is close to grasping (the thoughts), like a stream flowing down a steep mountain, this is called the experience of wavering. After that, alternately applying tightening and loosening, and continuously striving to meditate, as a sign that conceptual thoughts are gradually decreasing, the shape and color of the deity's image appear clearly in the mind at the same time, both clear and

Obtaining stability is like water accumulating in a pond, which is called the experience of attainment. Then, through meditation, the image of the deity appears in the mind, whether it is on a wall, or on a mountain peak or hillside, no matter how far or near, it appears clearly without any difference. Moreover, if one can meditate continuously for one-third or half of a session, without coarse conceptual thoughts arising, like a river flowing slowly, this is called the experience of habituation. Then, through meditation, the deity's image, color, hand gestures, ornaments, and coarse aspects of clothing all appear clearly, and one is not disturbed by other conceptual thoughts, being able to sustain it for one session, this is called the experience of stability, like an ocean without waves or Mount Meru. Then, through meditation, eventually the black and white parts of the deity's eyes, even the eyelashes and body hair, are as clear as if they were actually visible and tangible, and one can sustain it day and night or as one wishes, this is called the experience of completion. For this, "sale sang nge," "lhag ge," "lhang nge ba," these are the four degrees of clarity. "Mi gyo," "mi 'gyur," "ngön par mi 'gyur," "cir yang bsgyur du btub pa," these are the four degrees of stability, said to become powerful. Furthermore, it is said that this is the attainment of the signs of being able to touch and see. Moreover, when the deity's image is not clear, if one forcefully continues for a long time, it will cause physical discomfort and generate aversion, and then one will not want to meditate, and meditation will not progress. Then conceptual thoughts will create obstacles, so in general, one should shorten each session and increase the number of meditation sessions. When the deity's image becomes increasingly clear, interrupt the meditation, so that next time one will want to meditate. The interval between meditation sessions should not be too long, one should begin meditating again immediately. Moreover, one should not meditate in dim places or rooms when one has just woken up, when the drowsiness of sleep has not yet dissipated, in a dazed state, or when one is physically uncomfortable from being full or drunk during the day. During the day, one should meditate when the sunlight is bright and the sky is clear, and at night, one should meditate when there is lamplight or something similar that prevents dimness. Staying up late at night and being physically uncomfortable during the day will not be effective, so one should sleep well when going to bed. During the day, one can divide the time into about eight short sessions for meditation. When ending a meditation session, if one forcefully interrupts and suddenly stands up, it will harm...
