From the continuum of afflictive ignorance, arise serpent spirits, phlegm diseases, and so on. Similarly, from anger arise malevolent spirits, feverish heat, and bile diseases. From pride arise yaksha spirits, diseases caused by female demons and sharp pains. From desire arise female spirits and serous cold diseases. From jealousy arise Tsen, 'Gong, and Te'u Rang spirits, and diseases of combined wind and phlegm. Furthermore, based on such subtle and coarse afflictive thoughts, the external four elements are disturbed. Diseases, famine, weapons. Harmful spells, evil omens. Internal bodily ailments. Secret mental sufferings are all produced. Based on the object to be grasped, the conceptual thoughts of clinging to it arise as a multitude. The former thought plants the seed. The latter nourishes it. As it becomes coarser, all appearances arise as enemies, like the fears, joys, and sorrows of a dream. Being deceived by grasping them as true, one should recognize this great flaw in appearances, where all temporary and ultimate obstacles and hindrances appear even though they do not exist. When an enemy appears in sight or is remembered in mind, causing the arising of angry, negative thoughts, do not deliberately abandon that thought. Do not suppress it. Do not transform it. Like clouds dissolving, remaining, and disappearing in the sky, recognize that there is no escape from the expanse of awareness. By maintaining this state, anger itself is spontaneously liberated into clarity and emptiness, and mirror-like wisdom is manifested. No imprints are left. No karma is accumulated. All obstacles arising from it will be liberated in their own place. Similarly, by taking other afflictions as the path, ignorance arises as luminous Dharmadhatu wisdom. Pride arises as sensory emptiness, equality wisdom. Desire arises as bliss-emptiness, discriminating wisdom. Jealousy arises as awareness-emptiness, accomplishing activity wisdom. Thus, there is no doubt that all causes, effects, conditions, and appearances of afflictions are reversed into the expanse of the five wisdoms. Occasionally, practice.
