One should establish firmly. Second, to distinguish oneself from the lower vehicle, there are two aspects to generating bodhicitta: generating aspirational bodhicitta and training the mind in engaging bodhicitta. First, for all sentient beings pervading the sky, cultivate loving-kindness and compassion from the depths of your heart, thinking, "For their sake, I will attain Buddhahood in this very life. For that purpose, I will engage in the profound path of guru yoga with great diligence." Recite one hundred and eight times: "To the Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha, until enlightenment, I take refuge. By the merit of my generosity and other virtues, may I attain Buddhahood for the benefit of beings." Second, engaging bodhicitta is: wishing that all beings pervading the sky have happiness and the causes of happiness, and engage in virtue, the cause of happiness—this is loving-kindness. Wishing that they be free from suffering and not engage in non-virtue, the cause of suffering—this is compassion. Wishing that they never be separated from happiness alone—this is joy. Wishing that all beings, like only children, be free from attachment and aversion—this is equanimity. Thus, cultivate the four immeasurables in your mindstream. May all sentient beings have happiness and the causes of happiness. May they be free from suffering and the causes of suffering. May they never be separated from the supreme happiness free from suffering. May they abide in great equanimity, free from both near and far, attachment and aversion. Recite this seven or twenty-one times, or as much as you can. In this way, cultivate the relative bodhicitta, which is the nature of aspiration and engagement, and the ultimate bodhicitta, which is the union of the two, free from all conceptualizations and fixations, realizing that self and sentient beings are primordially unestablished. Third, the most excellent and supreme of both accumulation and purification is praise and prostration. Emanate bodies as numerous as atoms of the fields from yourself and all sentient beings pervading the sky, and prostrate. With respectful speech, utter melodious praises. With respectful mind, without distraction, single-pointedly prostrate with devotion. To the one by whose kindness great bliss arises in an instant, the guru's precious form, I prostrate to the lotus feet of Vajradhara. Combine each verse with a prostration, doing it one hundred and one times. Fourth, to accomplish the conducive conditions for generating qualities in your mindstream, the most supreme of accumulating merit is offering a mandala.

The mandala, including the large one, should be without defects. If you have the resources, use precious gems and medicinal herbs for the torma. If not, use clean grains moistened with fragrant water. Recite the Hundred Syllable Mantra while wiping the mandala. Arrange the thirty-seven heaps of offerings and offer them as usual. If circumstances permit, it is excellent to complete a hundred and eight offerings of thirty-seven heaps or seven heaps. If not, do as much as you can and count. Anoint the ground with incense? Offer your own and others' bodies, possessions, and the merits of the three times, together with mountain continents, sun, moon, etc. Transform them into boundless clouds of Samantabhadra's offerings and offer them to the compassionate Lama and the Three Jewels. May the two accumulations of merit and wisdom be perfected! You can count in this way, but in any case, do it one hundred and one times. The scriptures say to combine each mandala with four circumambulations, but this is not convenient in practice, so after completing the mandala, recite: "Namo Daśa Diktri Kāla Sarva Ratna Trayāya. Nama Praksha. Supra Praksha. Sarva Pāpam Biśodhani Svāhā." (Tibetan, Sanskrit Devanagari, Sanskrit Romanization, Chinese literal meaning) and while reciting the short mantra of the Medicine Buddha, circumambulate the support one hundred and eight times. If the space in the house is narrow and you cannot actually circumambulate, imagine circumambulating with your mind and recite the above mantra one hundred and eight times. Finally, imagine that immeasurable rays of light emanate from the assembly support, clearing away the two obscurations of all sentient beings, making them fortunate to possess the two accumulations, and blessing the lineage. Then, rest yourself and others, together with the support, in a state of non-discrimination. That is, imagine and transform the ocean of realms pervading space, and offer the outer mandala with praise, prostrations, and circumambulations with the three doors in reverence. Offering one's own and others' bodies, possessions, and the merits of the three times is the inner mandala. Not discriminating the three spheres, pacifying the elaborations from the very beginning, and resting in the natural state is the secret mandala. These should be connected together. Fifth, the Vajrasattva practice, which is highly praised for purifying obstacles, sins, and obscurations, is as follows: On the white lotus and moon disc on the crown of your head, Lama Vajrasattva, the color of the autumn moon, holding a vajra and bell, adorned with silks and jewels, sits with his two legs in the half-lotus posture in the midst of five-colored light. At his heart, on a moon disc, is the syllable (Hūṃ, hūṃ, Hūṃ, seed syllable), surrounded by the Hundred Syllable Mantra.
