Place the mudra of manifestation on the crown of your head. Close your eyes and, without letting your mind wander, meditate single-pointedly on this object. In the center of your own heart, visualize the great compassionate one with a sea of yidams as retinue. On your crown, visualize Guru Padmasambhava with a sea of siddhas. On your right, visualize Hayagriva, a sea of heroes. On your left, visualize Guhyajnana Dakini, a sea of heroines. In front and behind, visualize Ma Gon, Lcam dral, and a sea of oath-bound protectors, all of them swaying in dance, making the sound of "Ah ra lli" reverberate. Clearly visualize them abiding, blessing you with the wisdom of their minds, and with single-pointed devotion, repeat this supplication: Guru Ocean, source of all blessings. I supplicate you, ripen and liberate my lineage. Yidam Ocean, source of all accomplishments. I supplicate you, bestow the two kinds of accomplishments. Dakini Ocean, master of all activities. I supplicate you, dispel outer and inner obstacles. Great Compassionate One, one thousand and two Buddhas. Please bless me to shake samsara from its very foundation. If signs of arrival occur, observe the nature of the experience and stabilize it by remaining in equanimity. Then, proclaim the samaya, placing the vajra on your head. HO! In this mandala of the empowerment of unsurpassed secret mantra. Those disciples who wish to receive empowerment, protect the samayas well. If you break the samayas, you will experience suffering in the Naraka hells. If you protect the samayas, you will attain unsurpassed Buddhahood. Samaya Narakana. The root of maturation in Vajrayana is empowerment. The life force of empowerment depends on the samayas, so you must protect all the samayas and vows, including the common and special ones. Therefore, vow to do so, and repeat after me: HO! All the samayas spoken by the glorious guru. We will all protect them well. At this moment when the mandala of the Five Oceans of Avalokiteshvara is visibly present, think: May the tutelary deity with whom you have a connection from lifetimes past fall upon it! While offering flowers, repeat after me: Hom! For the sake of perfecting the accumulation of merit and wisdom, may these supreme deities, with whom there is karmic connection from the past, reveal their divine faces with this flower of true awareness! Pra ti dza ho! May the principal deity upon whom the flower falls be Lokeshvara, and may his secret name be Padma Gyepa. Recite this briefly and place the flower on your head. Visualize that the veil of ignorance and the blindfold are removed together. Hom! Ignorance, dualistic appearances, and the five poisons cause wandering in samsara. When the eyes of sudden grasping and dualistic thoughts are opened, may the five self-aware wisdoms arise clearly, and now behold the unchanging face of awareness! Visualize that you are directly seeing the wheel of the mandala of the Five Oceans of the Bhagavan Lokeshvara, and generate great faith, respect, and joy. Prostrate from the four directions and sit in front, visualizing that all sins, obscurations, and downfalls are completely purified by the stream of wisdom nectar. Perform the ablution with the action vase and offer it to drink. Hom! The three bodies of the Victorious Ones wash away impurities with water. Having performed the ablution that purifies the five poisons, alala! Just as the Victorious Ones of the past blessed, may all sins, obscurations, and downfalls be purified! Om Ah Hum Hrih! Sarva Shanti Kuru Ye Svaha! Thus, the preliminary practices for the empowerment are well accomplished. The main part consists of the vase empowerment with elaboration, the mantra empowerment without elaboration, wisdom and knowledge, and the introduction to the word empowerment, which will occur in sequence. First, visualize that by relying on the respective empowerment substances such as the vase, you will each receive the complete empowerment of the mandala of the Five Oceans of Avalokiteshvara.
