I, am the supreme heart essence of Ratna Lingpa. The Hidden Longevity Guidance Text, Vajra Garland, the exceedingly profound Dharma resides here. Homage to the Bhagavan, Protector Amitayus! Homage to the glory of averting untimely death! Homage to all the Victorious Ones! Like me, Padmasambhava, the exceedingly profound heart essence, this Longevity Guidance Text, Vajra Garland, I have composed for the benefit of the future. This has preliminary, main practice, and subsequent practice, taught in three stages. First, the preliminary stage is taught. First, in a solitary and delightful place, offer to the Lama and extensively perform a joyous feast gathering. Then, when a teacher with vows and auspicious circumstances are complete, first, guide according to circumstances and as appropriate, any of the common preliminary seven mind training practices. In short, strive to practice these seven branches. HRIH (Tibetan, Devanagari: ह्रीः, IAST: hrīḥ, Literal meaning: Hrih)! Lama Amitayus and those who have attained the longevity empowerment vidyadharas, I take refuge with body, speech, and mind. For the benefit of all sentient beings, may I generate the mind to attain the vidyadhara state of immortal life. Homage to the unchanging, eternal Vajra body, the lords of longevity. I offer without exception all the essences of the world and beyond. I confess all downfalls, negativities, and obscurations from non-virtuous actions such as killing. I rejoice in the accumulation of the two accumulations, such as practicing immortal vidyadhara. I urge you to clear away the obstacles to the life of all sentient beings, including myself. Until samsara is empty, I request you not to pass into sorrow, I request you to remain. May all beings completely perfect the two accumulations, may all attain Buddhahood! Thus, visualize the Lama and the assembly of Amitayus deities in the sky in front, and practice in sessions day and night. Then, on the crown of your head, visualize yourself as the deity, visualize the Lama Amitayus, pray with one-pointed devotion, receive the four empowerments, and so on, as in the common practice. These are the stages of the preliminary. Second, the main practice guidance has three parts: the guidance on the generation stage recitation, the guidance on gathering the essence of prana, and the guidance on the samadhi of clear light. First, the guidance on the generation stage recitation: sit upright on a comfortable seat.

From the state of a lotus, at the moment of perfect recollection, visualize yourself as the protector Amitayus, with a red body, adorned with various ornaments of perfect enjoyment, residing in a tent of rainbows and light, with rays of light greater than a billion suns, pleasing to behold, clearly arising in one place. In the center of his heart, at the center of a white moon disc, visualize a red Hrih (藏文：ཧྲཱིཿ，梵文天城体：ह्रीः，梵文罗马拟音：hrīḥ，汉语字面意思：啥) radiating light, and a green, smooth, and round Nri (藏文：ནྲྀཿ，梵文天城体：नृ，梵文罗马拟音：nṛ，汉语字面意思：内). Ja Hum Bam Hoh (藏文：ཛཿཧཱུྃ་བཾ་ཧོཿ), merge into oneness with yourself. Then, from Hrih (藏文：ཧྲཱིཿ，梵文天城体：ह्रीः，梵文罗马拟音：hrīḥ，汉语字面意思：啥), radiate light and gather all the blessings of body, speech, and mind of all the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas of the ten directions into the essence of life, dissolving from the crown of your head downwards. Dissolve into the letters Hrih (藏文：ཧྲཱིཿ，梵文天城体：ह्रीः，梵文罗马拟音：hrīḥ，汉语字面意思：啥) and Nri (藏文：ནྲྀཿ，梵文天城体：नृ，梵文罗马拟音：nṛ，汉语字面意思：内), which are radiant and lustrous. Visualize your body filled with immortal nectar, white and brimming. Recite the mantra single-pointedly as before. Again, radiate light and gather the merit and life essence of all beings, the radiance Nri (藏文：ནྲྀཿ，梵文天城体：नृ，梵文罗马拟音：nṛ，汉语字面意思：内), and all life, involuntarily, and dissolve them into Hrih (藏文：ཧྲཱིཿ，梵文天城体：ह्रीः，梵文罗马拟音：hrīḥ，汉语字面意思：啥) and Nri (藏文：ནྲྀཿ，梵文天城体：नृ，梵文罗马拟音：nṛ，汉语字面意思：内) as before, and recite the mantra. Then, gathering the essence of the elements: Again, from the letters, radiate light and gather the essence of the earth element, mountains and mountain ranges, snow mountains and medicinal mountains, forests, flowers, and grain essence, etc., all earth oils, as before, dissolving from the crown of your head and all pores into the letters in your heart, visualizing your body filled with essence, and recite the mantra. Again, as before, radiate light and gather all the essence of water, such as oceans, rivers and streams, and the moon, and recite the mantra as before. Again, as before, gather all the essence of fire, the fire of wisdom, the fire of the eon, and the fire of the elements, the sun, wood fire, grain and butter fire, etc., and act as before and recite the mantra. Again, as before, gather the essence of the wind element, the lower wind, the vajra cross, the upper wind, the great sound soaring in the sky, the wind of wisdom, the realms of the ten directions.
