Since the warmth of the face has not yet dissipated, and it has not been mixed with broken vows and adulterated substances, it is particularly superior compared to other lineages. Fourth, regarding the common preliminary practices. In the treasure text itself, it says: In accordance with the Shravaka vehicle, contemplate the difficulty of obtaining a human body; the nature of impermanence; how karma ripens without fail; the suffering of samsara; and contemplate the benefits of peaceful nirvana and take refuge. In accordance with the Bodhisattva vehicle, generate the mind of enlightenment for the benefit of all sentient beings; in accordance with the inner secret mantra, the Vajrasattva yoga for purifying obscurations; the guru yoga for accumulating merit; and in order to manifest realization through devotion and blessings, supplicate and receive the empowerment of samadhi. These teachings will be explained by condensing them into ten sections based on the ease of practice. First, contemplate the difficulty of obtaining a human body. That is, the eight unfree states and the ten endowments. First, the eight unfree states are: hell beings, hungry ghosts, animals, these are the three lower realms. Long-lived gods, and even if one is born as a human, being born in a remote border area, as a barbarian, with incomplete faculties, or as a holder of wrong views, these are all without leisure to practice the Dharma. Considering these, oneself is endowed with the ten good qualities, that is, having obtained a human body with the six elements, being born in a central region where the holy Dharma flourishes, having no defects in the five senses, not following perverse views such as those of non-Buddhists, having faith in the Three Jewels, the Buddha having come into the world and taught the Dharma, his teachings abiding, and also having a virtuous spiritual friend who upholds the teachings, and others who also have loving-kindness towards me and provide favorable conditions, therefore, obtaining this precious human body with leisure and power to practice the Dharma is extremely difficult to find and rare, and is endowed with great benefits. In the 'Letter to a Disciple' it says: Whoever obtains it brings the ocean of birth to an end, and also sows the seeds of virtue for supreme enlightenment, more virtuous than a wish-fulfilling jewel, who would render that human existence fruitless? The great power of mind, whatever human attainment is, that path is not attained by gods or nagas.

Not gods, not Garudas, not Vidyadharas, not non-humans, and not those who crawl on their bellies. Thus it is said, therefore, one should think and contemplate from various aspects such as cause, condition, essence, and example, and thus possess a mind that makes the most of leisure and opportunity. Second, regarding the nature of impermanence: First, the external world, including mountains and continents, initially forms, exists in the middle, and is ultimately destroyed by fire, water, and wind, possessing such a nature. Second, these sentient beings also initially arise from the causes of parents, exist briefly in the middle like the sun in the gaps of clouds, and ultimately die, and there is no reliance here, therefore it is impermanent. The changes of the four seasons, the manner of the rising and setting of the sun and moon, the differences between moments, and also that there is no one who has not died before, life is exhausted in an instant, the body is compounded and will be destroyed, etc., therefore there is not even a hair's breadth of certainty as to when death will come. As it is said in the Extensive Play Sutra: "The three realms are impermanent like autumn clouds, the body that is accumulated will be destroyed and separated, the four seasons are impermanent, changing and without essence, aging, decaying, and of the nature of death, there is no abiding for a moment, an instant, a second, the life of beings is like a waterfall on a steep mountain." Therefore, think about death, and at that time, nothing other than the sacred Dharma will be of benefit, so think about doing a sacred Dharma that will definitely be beneficial at the time of death. If you always think of doing it tomorrow or the day after tomorrow, there is no certainty as to when death will come. Therefore, you must generate the strength of diligence. As it is said in the Letter to a Friend: "If a fire suddenly breaks out on your head or clothes, you should abandon trying to put it out, and strive to prevent future rebirths, it is more important to be diligent than this." As it is said, you must quickly engage in practice. Third, regarding how karma ripens without fail, from the Precious Garland:
