However, before definitively establishing separation from all identified essences, the non-establishment of the place of going and the mind of the goer as distinct entities, and being apart from the union of clarity and emptiness, one should repeat the practice. The necessity is to purify the common mind's sins, obscurations, and obstacles, to reverse clinging, and ultimately to accomplish the Vajra Mind. Thus, it is also stated in the Madhyamakāvatāra: "Here, there are two necessities, to be examined by the distinction of common and supreme." Third, settling the mind into its natural state has two aspects. The text states: "Settling into the natural state and, returning to its original position." Firstly, regarding settling into the natural state, the text states: "Body natural, speech unadorned, mind free from thoughts, the three doors on the ground of the base, placed in a natural state." Therefore, on a comfortable cushion, the body and mind should be settled in whatever posture is comfortable, such as the lotus position, without moving. Speech should be free from talking, and the breath should also be kept natural, without adjustments. The mind should let go of all thoughts of virtue, non-virtue, and neutrality, and settle into its natural state. For example, just as water is clear when it is not turbid, the three doors become clear on the ground of the base, thereby accomplishing the complete cause of calm abiding. Thus, it is also stated in the Adhyātmānusmṛti: "Thus, the three, body, speech, and mind, be skilled in settling into the natural state." Secondly, regarding returning to the original position, there are three aspects. The text states: "With the view of the Śrāvaka's peace, the view of the Bodhisattva, and the view of the Wrathful One, respectively, the three doors are made to abide, the abiding is made stable, and the stable is made ultimately complete and liberated." The first of these is, Longchen Rabjampa's "Lamp of Emptiness" states: "With the view of the Śrāvaka's peace, the three, body, speech, and mind, settle." Therefore, the body is bound immovably with the seven-fold posture of meditation. The speech's words and the breath's coming and going are naturally slowed down. The eyes are fixed steadily on the tip of the nose or the sky. The consciousness of the six aggregates is left in its own place, without delighting or despising whatever arises, so that although it appears in the nature of the object, one does not lose the state of non-mentation. Secondly, the view of the Bodhisattva is, Longchen Rabjampa's "Lamp of Emptiness" states: "With the view of the Bodhisattva, settling will surely attain bliss." Therefore, the others are the same as before, except that the eyes gaze blankly into space, so that the consciousness generated by that condition arises momentarily, clearly and without ceasing. From the very moment of arising, one knows that its nature is unestablished, and clarity and emptiness are indivisible.

It should be realized without reservation. Third, the way of looking of the Wrathful One, as it is said in the Longsal: With the way of looking of the Wrathful One himself, the three naturally arising qualities are also accomplished. As it is said, without losing the state of meditation, stand up, move with staggering steps, look with squinting eyes. Recite haha hihi etc. in the mouth, concentrate the mind, and practice the skills. As the appearing conditions increase, the wisdom of emptiness also increases, and one should practice self-arising, self-manifesting, and free from elaboration. These can temporarily generate a special calm abiding that possesses bliss, clarity, and non-conceptuality. Ultimately, one can realize the meaning of the original purity of insight, or suppress the gross afflictions and enter the correct path. These have already explained the uncommon preliminary stages. Second, the main part has two, as it is said in the scripture: The path of Trekchö shows the state of abiding, the freedom from elaboration of original purity; the path of Tögal shows the spontaneous accomplishment of wisdom manifestly. As it is said, first, Trekchö original purity has two, as it is said in the scripture: Establishing the state of abiding and recognizing one's own face of awareness. As it is said, the first has three, as it is said in the scripture: Cutting off thoughts, searching for the weakness of the mind, examining the three places of arising, dwelling, and going. And also in the "Meaning Guidance After Death" it says: First cut off thoughts, then search for the weakness of the mind, then examine the three places of arising, dwelling, and going. As it is said, first cutting off thoughts, that is, the basis of all actions, the one who wanders in samsara from the three doors, and the root of attachment to past and future lives, who holds to Buddha, happiness and suffering, is it the body and mind together, or are they separate? Through observation and analysis, it is determined that the root of everything is the mind, as it is said in the Longsal: The single mind is the basis of all samsara and nirvana. And as it is said in the Guhyagarbha Tantra: The nature of mind without a basis is the root of all dharmas. And also in the New Sarma Mahamudra it says: The single nature of mind is the seed of all things, from which samsara and nirvana arise. All these sayings also fall into this. Second, searching for weaknesses, after observing and analyzing in this way, and determining the single nature of mind, are the mind and body one or different? The object of appearance.
