The preliminary practice for this is, according to the Vajra Thundercrash Tantra: "Speech abides as Hūṃ, Increase and diligent practice, Introduce to the path of taming." Among the four points mentioned, the first has two: increasing outer appearances and increasing inner aggregates. The first is to sit in a secluded place with the seven-point posture, visualizing a blue Hūṃ (Tibetan: ཧཱུྃ, Sanskrit Devanagari: हुं, Sanskrit Romanization: hūṃ, Literal Chinese meaning: Hūṃ) at the heart center. When it appears clearly, with the teeth and lips slightly touching, mix the wind and consciousness with the three Hūṃs, and sing a melodious and long song of Hūṃ. Many Hūṃ syllables burst forth from the Hūṃ at the heart center. Exhaling from the right nostril, all outer appearances are filled with flames of Hūṃ, and all appearances manifest as the nature of Hūṃ. This is increasing. Therefore, it is necessary to liberate appearances into emptiness. Second, increasing the inner aggregates is: again, recite the Hūṃ as before, and all the outer Hūṃs enter without obstruction from the left nostril, visualizing the entire body filled with flames, and holding the vase breath slightly. The body appears to be filled with Hūṃ, and feeling discomfort, this is increasing. Therefore, it is necessary to liberate the aggregates into emptiness. Second, diligent practice is divided into two: diligent practice on outer appearances and diligent practice on inner aggregates. The first is: reciting the Hūṃ forcefully and with vigor, many dark blue, intense, rough, powerful Hūṃs, matching whatever one desires, burst forth from the Hūṃ at the heart center, visualizing all outer appearances being completely shattered, becoming empty and clear. The outer world and its contents appear as the pure realm of A (Tibetan: ཨ, Sanskrit Devanagari: अ, Sanskrit Romanization: a, Literal Chinese meaning: A). This is accomplishing diligent practice. Therefore, it is necessary to realize appearances as unreal. Second, diligent practice on the inner aggregates is: reciting and expanding the Hūṃ as before, visualizing the front, back, upper, and lower parts of one's own body being completely shattered, becoming empty and clear. If the body feels empty and presents the experience of no-self, that is accomplishment. Therefore, it is necessary to liberate the aggregates into the rainbow body. Third, taming is: setting up an object of focus like a tree in front, with speech singing a long song of Hūṃ, a continuous chain of Hūṃ syllables emerges from the Hūṃ at the heart center, gradually wrapping around the object of focus from its base to its top, and then releasing it slightly.

Rest. Again, gradually dismantle and gather inward, completely dissolving into the Hūṃ (藏文:ཧཱུྃ།,梵文天城体:हुं,梵文罗马拟音:hūṃ,汉语字面意思:吽) at the heart center, and then rest. In this way, by uniting the three—wind, mind, and Hūṃ (藏文:ཧཱུྃ།,梵文天城体:हुं,梵文罗马拟音:hūṃ,汉语字面意思:吽)—and practicing the coming and going of inner and outer, the roar of conceptualization subsides, and one attains pliancy of mind, able to transform the object of focus at will; this is the purpose of seeking pliancy. Fourth, introducing it onto the path: Make your own body and wind-mind into one, in the form of a blue Hūṃ (藏文:ཧཱུྃ།,梵文天城体:हुं,梵文罗马拟音:hūṃ,汉语字面意思:吽) syllable, and imagine going forward on a path like the crawling of a worm, resting slightly at the turning points. Think of having gone to the far shore of a great distance, and verbally utter a long Hūṃ (藏文:ཧཱུྃ།,梵文天城体:हुं,梵文罗马拟音:hūṃ,汉语字面意思:吽). Again, as before, imagine coming back and remaining in your own place. Rest in between. Through this, initially, experiences of joy and sorrow, etc., with high and low sensations, will arise, and ultimately, body and mind will be pervaded by bliss. The purpose is to purify the common verbal obscurations and fixations. Ultimately, speech vajra will be accomplished. Third, the preliminaries of mind are three: As it says in the Prasangika: "Where does the mind first arise? Where does it dwell in the middle? And where does it go in the end? When these three are examined, the mind is trained, and the nature of mind is known." Therefore, first, examine the place of arising: This so-called mind, which experiences all happiness and suffering, this knowing and moving thing, from where does it arise in the outer and inner world? If it arises from the outer four elements, can it be found if each of them is broken down into particles and searched? If it arises from the inner self, can it be found if the body is searched in parts from the crown of the head to the soles of the feet? Again, if it arises from appearance, can the place of appearance be found? If it arises from emptiness, can the place of emptiness be established? In short, examine the mind that is to be sought outwardly, and look back at the awareness of the seeker inwardly; examine until the face free from grasping is seen. Second, examine the place of dwelling: As before, where does it dwell in the outer and inner world, the parts of the body, etc.? By examining and investigating through shape, color, function, and essence, one knows that it cannot be established anywhere; although it is clear and apparent, it has no self-nature, so repeat until it is thoroughly determined to be without foundation or root. Third, examine the place of going: When the mind, like a flash of lightning, arises and seems to disappear like smoke, where does it go? By examining, one knows that there is no place for it to go in the outer and inner world, appearance and emptiness. Because the mind that is the subject itself
