It is said, "Pecha Mangkhur is finished." The king and ministers consulted and sent seven fast runners, saying, "Go and catch that Tibetan child and bring back his head and heart!" When the fast runners came, Legdrub saw them and hid in the grove of trees. The fast runner, the Acharya, discerned with his clairvoyance, "This Tibetan child has not come here before. If we block the pass, he will surely come." After traveling three leagues, they blocked the pass and lay in hiding. When it was dark, Legdrub came and encountered the guards on the road and fought them. He cut off the head, extracted the heart, and offered it to the king. The king, suspicious, consulted with the ministers, saying, "Besides this one, there may be other Tibetan children. Send more guards to block the pass!" So twenty-five Acharyas and many others were sent to guard the pass. When Vairotsana heard the news, he was frightened and asked the Pandit what to do. The Pandit said, "If you obey the Guru's command like your own eyes, then by the power of compassion, you will be protected from all fear. If you do not know how to rely on him, it is like someone who wants to cross the river by relying on a boat; if the method is not skillful, both oneself and others will be ruined. If someone relies on the Guru but breaks his command, in the future he will fall into a bad rebirth, and in this life he will be inauspicious. Vairo, understand this! Place the qualified Guru on the crown of your head, wear the armor of fearless and courageous instructions, carry the dagger of evil mantras, the red and black weapons, accomplish the swift-footed Siddhi so that pursuers cannot catch you, smear the invisible hiding wood on your body, hold the Dharani (Sanskrit: dhāraṇī) of not forgetting the Dharma wheel, carry the images of invincible enemies on your back, and lead the Dakinis and Dharma protectors as escorts. If you know how to shoot arrows, there will be no obstacles anywhere. If you have wings, it is easy to fly into the sky. If you have instructions, you will not fear anyone." He also spoke many things in the form of coded language. Vairo said, "Good, I ask to learn in that way." The Pandits said they would give instructions, so they taught the practice of the Dharani (Sanskrit: dhāraṇī) of not forgetting, swift-footedness, hiding wood, and so on, and taught many instructions to Vairotsana himself. He gained fearless confidence and prepared to go to Tibet. From the biography of Vairotsana, "The Lotus Garden of Joy," the eighth chapter, which is about translating the Dharma in India and preparing to go to Tibet, is finished. Then Vimalamitra and Humkara, Shri Singha, and other Pandits said, "Vairotsana, you are not like others, we bless you to be a heart son."

Said: Now you have received all the profound and secret instructions, be sure to keep them secret! If you go to Tibet, do not teach these instructions first, otherwise they will become a source of wrong views. Because this Dharma is difficult to grasp, first teach and spread the pure Sutra teachings, and the time to teach the instructions will naturally come. If there is no suitable vessel, do not spread the profound essence Dharma. Except for those who diligently seek the Dharma, do not preach to those who only have faith in words. Do not exchange the wisdom of the instructions for worldly illusory wealth. Even if you are a king and have power over anyone, you cannot be arbitrary with the Dharma, do not undo the sealed decree. If someone claims to be wise, India will send someone to sow discord. Do not spread fame, pretend to be ignorant. Because Tibet is a remote land of demons, there is much doubt and demonic obstacles will arise. Once you have the instructions, wherever you go is a pure land for taming beings. Do not show the scriptures, prepare your luggage and wait for the opportunity. Do not forget the Lama, pray from the bottom of your heart. Keep your vows and may compassion protect you! After saying this, Vairochana offered a bre of gold flour as a reward. The masters each gave an object of devotion. Afterwards, Vairochana bid farewell and set off back to Tibet, soaring through the sky like a bird with his miraculous feet. Because there was a screen of wood, no one with eyes could see him. When encountering pass guards or being in danger, Vairochana subdued other appearances with his power and meditated. He offered gold flour, confusing the minds of the opponents, thus escaping the predicament. After a month, he arrived in Tibet. He met the Dharma King Trisong Detsen (reigned 742-798) and the omniscient Abbot (Shantarakshita) and Acharya (Padmasambhava). Everyone gathered together and held a grand celebration. Afterwards, the king invited Vairochana to the great Utsi Hall and requested him to preach the Dharma. First, he taught the Sutras such as the Bodhicharyavatara. Afterwards, he also taught the Vinaya Sutra and other scriptures. When he was turning the wheel of Dharma and dwelling in various ways, the Indian heretics became dissatisfied and discussed: We must send someone who is good at mischief and has fast feet to Tibet. So they sent three Acharyas to Tibet. They came to the market and places where people gathered, saying: The ignorant and foolish Tibetan king, seeking the evil mantra slanderer named Vairochana, did not obtain the true Dharma, but brought many destructive evil mantras to Tibet. If he is allowed to preach and spread the Dharma, Tibet will be destroyed. It is better to get rid of him, and the matter will be resolved. The Indian Dharma King is compassionate and must do this for the benefit of Tibet.
