From where did it originate? It originated from the Buddha. Therefore, the reason or necessity for drawing the image of the Tathagata is also the same. Some say that apart from the seven transgressions and their associated offenses prohibited by the Pratimoksha vows, they do not wish to abandon the three (transgressions) of the mind. But here, if one does not abandon these, it is equivalent to not abandoning afflictions. Are not the 'Three Hundred Verses' and the 'Root Verses' themselves following the teachings of 'consciousness as primary' and 'knowledge as primary'? When the Tathagata turned the Wheel of Dharma of the Four Noble Truths in Varanasi, did he turn it only for the ordained? Or did he also turn it for the sentient beings of the three realms? If it was only for the ordained, then all the offenses imposed by the Tathagata on monks and novices would become unreasonable burdens. In short, if afflictions produce karma, and karma ripens into karmic results, thereby producing the cycle of the three realms, then this situation would not occur to the sentient beings of the three realms, but that is not the case. Similarly, the Tathagata is the guide for all sentient beings, therefore, the precepts established for monks also apply to all sentient beings. In this way, all prohibitions would become completely prohibited, and all permissions would become completely permitted. We must follow in the footsteps of the teacher, the Tathagata, and the upholding masters of the Vinaya. In short, the truth of where self-nature exists and the truth of cessation are the two disciplines of practice. You should understand this and teach this Dharma to others, and also proclaim it. Furthermore, the World Protector Rinpoche said that, in general, all the Dharma spoken by the Bhagavan, the perfectly enlightened Buddha, is the interdependence of the three: field, intention, and object. If you understand this, you will also understand all my Buddha Dharma. The convergence of the interdependence of these three manifests as visible phenomena. Whether it is the Dharma of samsara or nirvana, everything depends on the difference between convergence and non-convergence. The masters said that some are experienced in this life, and some are experienced in future lives. Here is an example to illustrate one aspect.

If, like a parricide who harms his own land, one intends to kill parents who are as beneficial as fields, with malicious intent, that is the thought. Obstacles to love, compassion, and the mind of enlightenment. Sharp weapons or poison, etc., are the objects. If one is free from obstacles such as toothlessness, broken handles, and medicines, then the desired fruit of the thought will be achieved. Furthermore, the cultivator of the field, the teacher, the virtuous spiritual friend who possesses qualities. The intention is to desire to obtain the vows of a monk or novice. The object is the complete purification of the actions of body, speech, and mind, and the fulfillment of all three, then the desired purpose will be accomplished. Therefore, here in the sutras spoken by the Tathagata, formerly a person named Ornament King, in one place, there was a speaker of the Dharma. By accumulating merit, one obtains happiness. Therefore, people should do good deeds. That should be done again and again. It should be done immediately today. Having heard this, he developed strong faith, took off his umbrella, upper garment, and shoes, and offered them to the speaker of the Dharma. He gave conch shells and returned home. His wife dove into the well to fetch water, and four pairs of gold were entwined and came out. All the family members pulled it up, and when he came out of the well, Ornament King was amazed and said: Alas! Field of the nature of all virtues, one who has completely abandoned all faults, today I planted the seed there, today the fruit ripens. Thus he spoke and praised. That is also the fulfillment of the three aspects of field, thought, and object, which appeared in this life. Is it only that one? No. In the next life of that birth, he became a king named King of Merit Power, a celestial canopy, an umbrella that appeared from the sky, a throne of various jewels, a rain of jewels, the sound of verses, etc., appeared. Those are retribution, as well as what others experience, and what will be experienced after birth. The result of Ornament King's accumulation of merit will appear until he attains Buddhahood. When that happens, if the three, field, thought, and object, are all complete, it is immediate retribution. If two are complete, it is retribution in the next life. If one is not complete, it is retribution.
