Because the power of the unreal is exaggerated by delusion, it cannot accomplish the necessary tasks. 1-1786 Bhāviveka, Candrakīrti, Jñānagarbha, and others refuted those Madhyamikas who desire meaning and expounded the system of Yogācāra-Madhyamika, which is meaning and its power, referring to the material basis such as seeds not existing, while the consciousness that clings to them exists because they exist. In order to prevent the measure of seeing meaning here. Asaṅga said: 'When non-conceptual wisdom operates, because there is no appearance as meaning, one should realize no-meaning.' 'Because one thing, consciousness is different, therefore it is considered that meaning is not established.' Etc., through reasoning, how the knowledge of the five kinds of beings appears separately, and how meaning is realized. If matter realizes meaning, then the appearance of realizing meaning separately will disappear, because one will not become many. All samsara and nirvana are created by the mind. In the Twenty Verses of Nāgārjuna it is said: 'All these are only mind, arising like a transformation of illusion.' Arising from knowledge is also not contradictory to the scriptures of non-arising, because it is considered that self and others arise from imputation, while other dependent knowledge will arise, the sutras say this refers to, just as good castes etc. are not eaten or touched by others, while bad castes etc. are eaten or touched by others. 1-1787 Similarly, no-self-nature also refers to the no-self-nature of imputation etc. The *Saṃdhinirmocana Sūtra* and the *Maitreya-paripṛcchā* etc., and even the words spoken by the Buddha himself are valid, others are not. False, only non-existent, like space, from no cause to immeasurable, there are five changes. Similarly, merely four negations of things etc. will cause all dharmas to be negated, therefore, in the first view, the basis of negation, i.e., the subject of debate, is not established. The *Madhyamakālaṃkāra* says: 'For that which has no object, the combination of negation, cannot exist.' The *Madhyamakāvatāra* says: 'The other-arising in conventional truth is negated, and there is no mind in dreams, because it is not produced.' Actions and treatises on valid cognition should not be created, because there are no wrong views etc. that need to be removed, and the negation of appearance through actions etc. will be harmed by the experience of appearance. The remaining power and dependent origination of no-self-nature etc. are negated, which will lead to no power and no arising and ceasing. If this is thought, then the existence or non-existence of power and the existence or non-existence of arising and ceasing --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Then, there would be no meaning to acceptance or rejection. Furthermore, it is also unreasonable to assume existence merely because of appearance, because all constructs would then exist, and there would be no meaning to accepting or rejecting existence and non-existence. Therefore, establishing something based on the presence or absence of capability is the way of the wise. All of these, if they are not so, are refuted by valid cognition and scripture that are well-known in the world. The manner in which these are refuted by the treatises of the Madhyamaka school, and the manner in which they are established by valid cognition and scripture, would become extensive if written here, so the wise should explain them extensively. As it is said in the Ratnavali (Precious Garland): 'If this Dharma is understood wrongly, even the unwise will be destroyed. To view it as non-existent in this way will cause one to fall into a pit of impurity.' The Madhyamaka path of our own system is that phenomena that are not truly existent appear, but they do not appear as material objects; rather, they appear as one's own consciousness alone. Acharya Shantarakshita, in the Madhyamakalankara (Ornament of the Middle Way), quoting the Lankavatara Sutra (Descent into Lanka Sutra), says: 'Here, there is not even a little arising, nor is there even a little ceasing. Arising and ceasing are only consciousness.' And in the Yuktisastika (Sixty Stanzas on Reasoning): 'The elements, etc., are said to be completely contained within consciousness. If that is separated by consciousness, is it not a false imputation?' Relying on these two, holding the view that it is only mind in conventional truth is what this teacher approves. The appearance of another's mind is also not possible, because that is not its object of appearance. It is also not the case that non-existence appears as you claim, because there are two faults: being without a cause and being occasional. Therefore, it is because of the habitual tendencies of grasping at reality as the nature of one's own consciousness that it appears as dualistic, as it is said in that very text: 'The mind disturbed by habitual tendencies appears vividly as reality.' and so forth. The reasoning for establishing it as mind is the well-known simultaneous apprehension, etc., so it is not listed here. Furthermore, in your Madhyamaka system, since neither existence nor non-existence exists, what is there to negate? Because there is nothing to be negated. Because in opposition, negating one implies the other, so the absence of both is contradictory. If you say that it is negating superimposition, then it is the same as what is constructed by conceptual thought, meaning that it is reasonable to negate what is constructed by internal and external schools, as you say in the Madhyantavibhaga (Distinguishing the Middle from the Extremes): 'The unreal conceptual thought is the mind and mental factors of the three realms.' The appearance of the mind and mental factors of the three realms that appear in it and --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
