It is said to exist, and they think so. Not only what has just passed, but it also shows the arising of the unborn, because if it had not happened before, it shows the state of not existing before. If someone asks, 'If that is so,' then 'what has not happened before' does not mean arising, because there is no essence, so there is no action of arising. Also, if it is said that what is completely established is 'existent,' and what is not done and not established is 'non-existent,' then the arising thing, if it is separated from these two states, then does this 'non-existent' refer to existence or non-existence? Whether it exists or not, it is not established. When all possibilities of the fruit arising are excluded, and there is no fruit except the cause, then that is cessation, because the arising of the fruit and the destruction of the cause are unreasonable, so it is said that the characteristics of conditioned phenomena—arising, abiding, and ceasing—do not exist, which is the general meaning. If it is said that the arising fruit exists or not, except for the cause, then it becomes the meaning of preventing arising. The sutra says: 'Sentient beings, humans, and animals are all right, but here, birth and death will not happen again. All dharmas are empty like illusions, and non-Buddhists cannot understand them.' This is talking about actions and all dharmas being emptiness, without characteristics, unborn, unceasing, and so on. This is the explanation of the fifteenth chapter, which negates conditioned phenomena. Chapter Sixteen: Establishing the Teacher and the Student Thus, through the fifteen chapters, the meaning of the treatise is fully explained. Now, the sixteenth chapter, through the establishment of the teacher and the student, explains the necessity of the treatise and dispels the bad attacks on one's own school. Due to some internal and external erroneous factors, such as being able to function, continuing to exist, being accustomed to clinging to real things, etc., things that are inherently empty will also appear as non-empty things and are considered like real things, and attachment arises through conceptual thoughts. Therefore, the previous fifteen chapters separately refute these errors and the sources of errors. In response, if someone thinks that when the speaker, the thing being spoken about, and the sound that includes the two appear, emptiness is not established. Then, whatever relies on the cause to produce all the fruits is what our school acknowledges. Therefore, these three also have no essence, because they are interdependent. Arising and establishing, through what cause are these three established? Through those two causes, established from those two causes, so it is a dependent origination that is contingent and has no essence. If there is no difference between samsara and nirvana, then where is the difference between samsara and nirvana? --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If it is thought that, like refuting 'suitability' as being equivalent to emptiness, the true nature of non-emptiness is established through apparent faults, then why can't the faults of non-emptiness, as previously stated, establish emptiness? Because there is a difference between true faults and apparent faults. If you, the proponent of inherent existence, enjoy refuting the views of other Madhyamikas and only like establishing your own view, then why don't you present proofs? If you must present them, then when we present them, that will also be unable to establish anything, because it is also establishing the absence of inherent existence. If, upon thoroughly examining the Madhyamika view or system, anything that does not exist does not become a tenet, then all of your 'thing is one,' 'otherness,' and 'indescribable as the same or different,' etc., will not become tenets, because they do not exist upon examination. If the manifestly appearing pot is truly established, then the reasoning that establishes emptiness becomes meaningless, because the manifest appearance is already established. But the establishment of manifest appearance has already been refuted. In this world, there are no reasonings from internal or external schools that can truly establish things and harm emptiness, but there are signs and reasonings that establish emptiness apart from truth. Therefore, neither manifest appearance nor inference can harm emptiness, because their reasoning cannot measure the truth that is not harmed. 1-482 Also, it does not accept emptiness in the ultimate sense.' This shows that dependence is emptiness, and there is no non-emptiness. So, upon what does emptiness arise? In any case, there cannot be a contradiction that swallows contradictions, because there is no object to be negated, so there is no negation of an antidote. If the Madhyamika itself becomes a tenet, then the absence of tenets must become the essence of a tenet. Since neither existence nor non-existence is accepted in the ultimate sense, then the absence of tenets itself does not exist. So, in the ultimate sense, what would become the contradictory object to be negated? If there is an opponent, then how can heat burn? Because heat is not the object to be burned. If a true thing is seen, then its non-existence becomes the object to be refuted, but since it is not seen, the faults of the four tenets of existence and non-existence, sameness and otherness, etc., as previously stated, are avoided, that is, seeing the absence of faults. How do subtle atoms arise? How do atoms exist? The thing that is not established itself is therefore unrelated, that is, it is invisible. If it is invisible to the Buddha, then how can it be visible to others? That is, it does not exist in essence. If, for all visible things, the two dharmas of existence and non-existence, etc., that were previously refuted do not exist, then how can other unseen things exist? --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
