Neither of these two will occur. Secondly, feelings that possess such characteristics are also divided from the perspective of their essence into five types: pleasant feeling, painful feeling, agreeable feeling, disagreeable feeling, and neutral feeling. Their characteristics are, in order: causing the body, including the senses, to feel comfortable; causing it to feel pain; causing the mind and its retinue to feel comfortable; causing it to feel pain; and the experience that causes neither comfort nor pain to the body and mind. From the perspective of cause, there are six types, from the feeling arising from the aggregation and contact of the eye to the feeling arising from the aggregation and contact of the mind. Their characteristics are, in order: due to the aggregation and contact of the eye, completely cutting off the signs of the intermediate state between the agreeable and disagreeable, thereby experiencing any aspect of the intermediate state of comfort and pain, and so forth, should be applied accordingly. From the perspective of location, there are two types: bodily feeling and mental feeling. Their characteristics are, in order: the feeling that arises in the retinue of sense consciousness and the feeling that arises in the retinue of mind consciousness. From the perspective of what to abandon and what to cultivate, there are four types: those accompanied by defilements, those without defilements, those that rely on attachment, and those that rely on manifestation. Their characteristics are, in order: any feeling that increases the craving that is manifest attachment to the aggregates; that which does not increase this craving; that which increases the craving that is manifest attachment to desirable qualities; and that which does not increase this craving. In the classification of perception, there are two aspects: characteristic and basis. The first is: the wisdom that completely cuts off the unique nominal characteristics of phenomena. The second is: perception with such characteristics is also divided from the perspective of cause into six types, such as perception arising from the aggregation and contact of the eye. Their characteristics are, in order: due to the aggregation and contact of the eye, completely cutting off the unique nominal characteristics of the object of eye consciousness, and so forth, should be applied accordingly. From the perspective of essence, there are two types: perception with signs and perception without signs. The first is further divided into three types: perception with nominal characteristics, perception with elaborations, and perception with clear characteristics. Their characteristics are, in order: completely cutting off the nominal characteristics of sound and meaning, completely cutting off the elaborations of grasper and grasped, and

It is the consciousness that completely eliminates the appearance of distinct signs. That which is the opposite of the three with signs should be known as signlessness. From the perspective of the object of focus, there are the consciousnesses of smallness, greatness, immeasurability, and nothingness. Their characteristics, in order, are the consciousness that completely eliminates the signs of the desire realm, the consciousness that completely eliminates the signs of the form realm, the consciousness that completely eliminates the signs of space and consciousness, and the consciousness that completely eliminates the signs of nothingness. Regarding the classification of the aggregate of formations, there are two ways to determine the characteristic and the basis. The first is that which becomes the basis for the delusion of a self that accumulates virtuous and non-virtuous actions. The second is that formations with such characteristics are also of two types: those that occur simultaneously and those that do not occur simultaneously. Their characteristics, in order, are the formations that occur simultaneously with the mind and those that do not occur simultaneously with the mind. The first are the mental factors other than feeling and perception, which are the six: pervasive, object-determining, virtuous, afflictive, near-afflictive, and variable. Their characteristics, in order, are: the mental factor that can occur simultaneously with all the substances of the mind of its own kind; the mental factor that engages only with specific objects, such as objects to be examined; the mental factor that arises as a nature that is completely pure in essence; the mental factor that makes the mind extremely uneasy through various doors; the wisdom that cuts off the mental turmoil from within due to the excellence of others. The pervasives are five: feeling, perception, formation, contact, and attention. The characteristics of the first two have been explained, and the latter three, in order, are: the mental factor that causes the mind to move universally towards objects such as virtue; the mental factor that, when object, faculty, and consciousness are combined, completely eliminates the signs of the lovable, unlovable, and neutral; the mental factor that causes the mind to focus on its own object moment by moment. The object-determining factors are five: aspiration, conviction, mindfulness, concentration, and wisdom. Their characteristics, in order, are: the mental factor that seeks the desired object; the mental factor that grasps the object as definite, having resolved doubts and dispelled imputations; the mental factor that does not forget the object of focus; the mind focused on the object of focus.
