It pervades all things with form, and the second pervades only things with obstruction. Alternatively, the teacher Vasubandhu considers there to be three types of form that can be transformed: the first two, and that which can be transformed into form by the imposition of "form." These three correspond respectively to the three forms of visible and obstructive form, obstructive form, and invisible and unobstructed form. The meaning of the latter transformable form is that its own nature is not something with form, but the application of its name depends on form, such as that which is made from aggregation, or that which arises from correct appropriation, and so on. Second, establishing the bases. That is, all things that have the characteristics of form just mentioned can be determined as the form of cause and the form of effect, or determined as the two, the great elements and the derived form. Among them, the form of cause and the great elements are the same in meaning, and their characteristic is: the tactile sensation that is the source of all forms of effect. The form of effect and the derived form are the same in meaning, and their characteristic is: any form that arises from the great elements as the cause, and does not have the power to independently occupy a place. The great elements have four realms: earth, water, fire, and wind. Their characteristics are, in order: for body consciousness, appearing as hard, wet, warm, light, and moving. Alternatively, it can be explained as: the tactile sensation that can hold the form of the effect without falling, can gather without scattering, can ripen without rotting, and can move and grow in other places. The derived form also has three forms: sense faculty, object, and the object of mind. Their characteristics are, in order: the derived form that is suitable as the basis for the simultaneous arising of sense consciousness; the derived form that is suitable to be perceived by sense consciousness; the derived form that can only be perceived by mind consciousness, and does not act on sense consciousness. The sense faculties also have five, such as the eye, and their characteristics are, in order: the derived form that is suitable as the basis for the simultaneous arising of eye consciousness, and so on. Each of these sense faculties can be divided into two types: the dependent sense faculty and the similar sense faculty, and their characteristics will be explained below. The objects also have five, from form to the tactile sensation of the derived form, and their characteristics are, in order: the derived form that can be perceived by eye consciousness, and so on. Among them, form is color and shape.

Since there are two types, in order: the visible object of the eye consciousness that appears undifferentiated and the visible object that appears differentiated. Colors are four: blue, yellow, white, and red. Shapes vary as long, short, flat, round, level, thick and flat, high, and low. Shadows and sunlight, etc., are the differences between the two. Sounds are threefold from the perspective of cause: graspable, ungraspable, and arising from both causes. From the perspective of benefit and harm, they are threefold: pleasant, unpleasant, and neither. Smells are twofold from the perspective of cause: innate and synthetic. From the perspective of benefit and harm, they are threefold: fragrant, unpleasant, and neutral. Tastes are sixfold from the perspective of essence: bitter, sour, spicy, astringent, salty, and sweet. From the perspective of benefit and harm, they are threefold: pleasant, unpleasant, and neutral. From the perspective of cause, they are twofold: innate and synthetic. Tangible objects of change are: because they are attributed to the state of aggregation of the great elements, they are not established as separate entities. Therefore, they are attributed to various situations such as the aggregation of all elements, the aggregation of three elements, the aggregation of two elements, and individual parts. The objects of the mind also have five forms: atoms, manifest occasions, non-revealing forms, completely imputed forms, and empowered forms. The definitions in order are: the gross is thoroughly analyzed by wisdom and ultimately determined to be the smallest limit. It appears to the consciousness of the mind as an object of space separated from the touch that hinders the understanding of others. Although it has the nature of action, it does not recognize other minds that arise from its own motivation. In the meditation of ugliness, it appears as the object of meditation, such as skeletons. In the meditation of liberation, it appears as colors such as blue and yellow, and so on. In the classification of the aggregate of feeling, there are two aspects: definition and determination of the defined object. The first is experiencing any of pleasure, pain, or neutrality. Among them, pleasure is the desire not to be separated when any feeling arises, and the desire to meet when it ceases. Pain is the desire to be separated after it arises, and the desire not to meet after it ceases. Neutrality is any feeling.
