For the sake of the cause of the Dharma of the ground, the nominal meanings are the four in order, as it is said. Such perfect reality is also of two kinds: the emptiness of no-thingness, and the emptiness of the nature of no-thingness. The first is: on the dependent arising, the emptiness of being devoid of the self-nature of persons and dharmas, which is the nature of non-affirming negation. The second is: that very dependent arising, the emptiness of not being established as the nature of the two selves, which is the nature of non-negation affirmation, that is, what is called the naturally luminous nature of the innate awareness of dependent arising, the self-nature of the mind. As it is also said in the *Madhyāntavibhāga*: "In persons and dharmas, this absence of things is emptiness; that which is existent without things, that is other-emptiness in that." As it is said. Then, how is the unreal imputation dependent arising? Why is it called dependent arising? Because it arises from its own seed as the nature of appearing as two, it is dominated by other conditions. And because, once born, it cannot remain for more than a moment, it is called dependent arising. How are those things that are fixated as self and dharma considered to be imputed? Why are they called imputed? Because the mental consciousness is the object of immeasurable aspects of imputation, it is imputed. Because it is only the object of imputation on that which has no self-nature, it is called imputed. Then, how is emptiness perfect reality? Why is it called perfect reality? Because it does not change into something else, it is perfect reality. Because it is the supreme of all dharmas, it is called perfect reality, because it is the object of perfect purity, and because it is the supreme of all virtuous dharmas. If asked, how many kinds of dependent arising are there? In detail, there are countless, because all the differences of unreal imputation, however many there are, are its differences. In brief, there are two: the dependent arising of habitual tendencies, and the dependent arising that is not perfectly established as the nature of all afflictions and purifications. What is the meaning of these? That is, this unreal imputation, by the power of its own seed of habitual tendencies, the duality of

Since it arises as the nature of appearance, it is first established as other-dependent. Since it is naturally pure, it is not entirely established as the nature of all afflictions. Since it is suddenly disturbed by all afflictions, it is not entirely established as the nature of complete purification, therefore it is established as the second other-dependent, so I think. Alternatively, other-dependent is of two kinds, distinguished by complete purity and impurity. The first is the pure worldly dharma obtained from the aftermath of the noble ones, that is, it appears as the nature of grasper and grasped, and because it has the aspect of the three realms, it is under the power of others. The second is the unreal imputation that exists in the minds of children. If asked how many kinds of imputation there are? If explained in detail, they are immeasurable, because there are endless conceptualizations, so there are as many imputations by those. If summarized briefly, there are two imputations, of person and phenomena, and each of them has two imputations, of essence and difference. If asked how many kinds of perfect reality there are? That is like the expanse of the sky, because it is of one taste in the nature of the dharmadhatu, so in ultimate truth there is not the slightest difference. However, for the sake of those who delight in elaboration, if we consider the distinctions of retinue and so on, there are two kinds: the permanent and the impermanent perfect reality. The first also has two kinds: the naturally perfect reality and the completely pure perfect reality. These are also, in order, the thusness with defilements and the thusness without defilements. The nature of the path that obtains the completely pure perfect reality, together with its seed and object, is the impermanent perfect reality, which is the path of purification and the object of that path, two kinds. The first also has two kinds: cause and effect. The first is: the naturally abiding lineage, which is the taintless seed existing in the alaya, coming from beginningless time, which is said to be the distinction of the six sense bases obtained by the nature of reality. The determination of its nature has already been explained in detail before. If asked why it is included in the perfect reality? Because the Great Vehicle
