Because the lower cannot measure it, it is called Immeasurable Light. Because bliss greatly increases, it is called Increase of Virtue. Like the earth forming clouds, without obscuration, it is called Cloudless. Arising from the action of non-movement, it is called Born of Merit. Among children related to other places, the fruit is the largest, hence it is called Great Fruit. Because the thoughts of the six consciousnesses are cut off and abide, it is called Without Thought. Not mixed with ordinary beings, not greater than other superiors, hence it is called Not Greater. Having obtained special samadhi, without the suffering of afflictions, it is called Without Affliction. Utterly peaceful and beautiful before the eyes, hence it is called Abundant Appearance. The view is pure and good, hence it is called Extremely Seen. In the place where it exists, there are no other qualities such as water level better than this, hence it is called Not Below. Or because it is the limit of form, it is called Accumulated Limit. At the time of practicing absorption, the thought arises of infinite space, therefore it is called the Sphere of Infinite Space. Similarly, the thought arises of infinite consciousness, and the thought arises of nothing to be grasped, therefore it is called the Sphere of Infinite Consciousness and the Sphere of Nothingness. The thought arises that perception is fruit and stinging, and non-perception is complete ignorance, and faint perception arises, therefore it is called the Sphere of Neither Perception nor Non-Perception. How should this world of sentient beings be determined? Regarding this, previous Tibetan teachers gathered various sutras and treatises that did not agree and explained them extensively. However, those only amount to exhausting oneself for no result. Here, no effort is made to gather various contradictions together, nor do we follow the explanations of those who are shallow. So how should it be explained? This teacher, having understood how things appear in the sutras of the Great and Small Vehicles, shows them connectedly in very clear and beautiful words. As it is said in the *Yogacarabhumi-sastra*, it will be explained as it is. The intermediate verse arising from that is: Number and

Places and measures, the measure of life and enjoyment, births and bodies, causes and conditions are vast. Thus it is said. Among these, the arrangement of the number of realms of sentient beings is as follows: There are three realms: the desire realm, the form realm, and the formless realm. Among these, the desire realm and the first dhyana, including the specific actual ground of the first dhyana, are the grounds with both investigation and analysis. The specific actual ground of the first dhyana is the ground with only analysis and no investigation. The form and formless realms from the second dhyana upwards are the grounds with neither investigation nor analysis. Among these, the arrangement of places is as follows: In the desire realm, there are thirty-six other places, as follows: The eight places of the great hot hells are: the reviving hell and the black line hell, the crushing hell and the crying hell, the great crying hell and the hot hell, the very hot hell and the uninterrupted hell. Opposite those great hot hells, beyond a hundred thousand yojanas, there are eight places of cold sentient being hells, as follows: the blister hell and the blister bursting hell, the chattering teeth hell and the "kyi hud" hell, the "achchu" hell and the hell cracked like a blue lotus, the hell cracked like a red lotus and the hell cracked like a great red lotus. The reviving hell is thirty-two thousand yojanas below this. Below that, separated by four thousand yojanas each, there are the other hells. Just like the place of the reviving hell, the first place of the cold hell is also the same. Below that, separated by two thousand yojanas each, there are the other hells. Since pretas, asuras, and animals wander together with gods and humans, their places are not separately arranged. There are twelve places for humans, namely the four continents and the eight subcontinents, which will be explained below. There are six other places for the gods who enjoy desire, from the Four Great Kings to the Paranirmitavasavartin. The place of the demons is a special place belonging to the Paranirmitavasavartin. Short-lived ones and sentient beings nearby
