By realizing the nature of reality, one abandons attachment to excellent views or perspectives. What is to be abandoned through meditation are all the defiled dharmas that still arise in the continuum up to the attainment of the path of seeing; these are the opposite of what is to be abandoned through seeing. Because one cannot abandon them merely by seeing the truth, but abandons them by familiarizing oneself with what has been seen, therefore they are to be abandoned through meditation. Here, there are also three types of all-pervasive defilements: the co-emergent view of the aggregates as a self and the view of clinging to extremes, as well as attachment and anger that arise towards objects, pride that arises towards sentient beings, and the near defilements that correspond to these, and ignorance that is associated with all of them; these are the all-pervasive defilements of affliction. The actions of body and speech that are aroused by these in various direct and indirect ways are the all-pervasive defilements of action. The aggregates, elements, and sense bases of fortunate rebirths are the all-pervasive defilements of birth. Among these, the first two all-pervasive defilements to be abandoned by seeing are only afflictive. Moreover, the first is what is practiced in the form and formless realms, and the second is also what is practiced in the form realm, and is only obscured and unspecified. Both of them, when practiced in the desire realm, are only unwholesome. The third all-pervasive defilement, because it is the nature of maturation, is only unspecified and unobscured. There is nothing of virtue in these. The first all-pervasive defilement is included by the three realms. The second is included by the lower two realms. The last is only associated with the desire realm. The first all-pervasive defilement to be abandoned by meditation, everything that belongs to the upper realms, and the co-emergent views of the desire realm and their associates, are obscured and unspecified, while everything else that belongs to the desire realm is unwholesome. The second all-pervasive defilement has all three, virtue and so on, while the last is only unspecified and unobscured. The first and the last are included by the three realms. The middle one is included by the lower two realms. Seeing

Things to be abandoned, once abandoned, will never arise again in the continuum. The afflictions to be abandoned through cultivation, once abandoned, will not arise again. Virtuous and neutral phenomena may still arise, but because they do not increase craving, they are called abandoned. These are the briefly summarized differences between the two types of abandonment, which will be explained in detail later. One aspect of all things is what is abandoned by seeing and the abandonment of the uncontaminated. Through perfect cultivation, one abandons what is to be abandoned by cultivation as described above. This is because the aggregates are impermanent and only suitable as Dharma, not as a permanent "self," therefore one abandons the manifest clinging to the "self" as perfect cultivation. Non-abandonable things are uncontaminated dharmas, because they are faultless in every way and therefore not to be destroyed by antidotes. The uncontaminated that is in accordance with the decisive part, although it is a compliant uncontaminated, does not belong to the category of non-abandonable uncontaminated, because it is connected to the suffering of contaminated existence and is therefore to be abandoned by cultivation. How is this so? When cultivating the virtuous that is in accordance with the decisive part, because there is still afflicted thought, that virtue is also bound by being grasped as "self," therefore it is contaminated. It seems to be a mistake that the scriptures mention and explain ten realms and four birth-places. This is because it contradicts the number of contaminated and uncontaminated things before, and it is impossible for the five consciousness realms to be uncontaminated, because they are inherently outward-looking and cannot rely on the path. The commentary says that since the actions of body and speech of the non-learner are uncontaminated, there are uncontaminated body, form, and sound realms, which also needs to be examined. The action of the body transforming into the form realm is nothing other than the expression of the body, and this is the shape marked on the part of the ripening body. Correctly speaking, this is suitable for the obscured and unspecified and the contaminated, but not suitable for virtue or the uncontaminated. The previous setting of the form and sound realms as virtuous and non-virtuous was due to the need for
