For example, it's like the thief running out and the door being closed happening at the same time. Isn't it that the thief runs out first and then the door is closed later? If it's said to be an example of simultaneous occurrence, how can that be? Because as long as the door is not closed, even if the thief has temporarily run out, he has not completely run out. Because there is no obstacle, there is a possibility of entering again. When the door is closed, there is no chance of entering again, so the name "the thief has truly run out" is obtained. Therefore, what is said here is not that the thief going out means he has run out, but that there is no chance of entering again, which is simultaneous with closing the door. Similarly, as long as the antidote has not arisen, it cannot be said that the opposing factor has been cut off, because there is no obstacle to it arising again. When the antidote has fully arisen, there is no chance of arising again, so it is said that what is to be abandoned has been cut off. Here, does the antidote refer to the immediate path or the liberation path? Some people think it is the immediate path, but that is not the case, because when the immediate path arises, what is to be abandoned is being abandoned, not has been abandoned. Otherwise, the immediate path would not have the actual function of cutting off what is to be abandoned. Therefore, in terms of the overall antidote, when the liberation path arises, it is said that the antidote has fully arisen, thereby cutting off all that is to be abandoned. The ancients associated the previous path of cultivation, that is, the seven grounds and below, with this immediate path of the eighth ground, but this does not match the "power of arising." After that, because there is no longer attachment to what is to be abandoned and the antidote, the unacquired abandonment related to their arising and the object of refutation is obtained. This is associated with the liberation path of the eighth ground. After that, the characteristic of not dwelling in samsara, that is, the wisdom of realizing selflessness, and the characteristic of not dwelling in nirvana, that is, skillful means and great compassion, are obtained. By what power? By the power of past aspirations to not dwell in existence and peace and to act for the benefit of others, and by the power of skillful means of being proficient in the six perfections such as generosity. This is also associated with the special qualities of the eighth ground. After that, samsara and nirvana

Because of generating the means and wisdom of not abiding in Nirvana, one obtains the Dharma that is not common to the Hearers and Solitary Realizers, etc., of the Lesser Vehicle. This is established on the Ninth Ground. Because one obtains the four individual self-cognizances, in all aspects, it is not common to the Hearers and Solitary Realizers. After obtaining what is not common to the Hearers and Solitary Realizers, one obtains the accomplishment of benefiting others in sequence. How is benefiting others done? Just like the thoughts of the beings to be tamed, constantly urging them onto the path of the Three Vehicles is its nature. By what means? By abiding, etc., teaching the Dharma through the four kinds of hidden intentions, thereby transforming the nature and the antidote. This is established on the Tenth Ground. Because there, the Buddha and benefiting others are said to be the same. Here, the meaning of each of the hidden intentions is explained, and the difference in the determination of numbers is shown, in two parts. The first part has four. The hidden intention of abiding is: In order to gradually settle those who are afraid of the selflessness of persons and phenomena, the existence of the inner and outer sources, sentient beings, and persons, etc., is taught. As it says in the Twentieth Chapter: "The existence of forms and other sources, is to tame those beings, spoken with intention, like sentient beings born miraculously." Secondly, the hidden intention of characteristics is: Considering the three aspects of the absence of inherent existence, it is taught in the Perfection of Wisdom Sutra that all phenomena are without inherent existence. As it says in the Thirtieth Chapter: "Therefore, all phenomena, have three aspects of no essence, intending to say all phenomena, are without inherent existence." Thirdly, the hidden intention of the antidote is: In the Ornament it says: "Denigrating the Buddha's Dharma, and a little laziness and contentment, acting with desire and pride, regret and uncertain reversal, are the obscurations of sentient beings, the antidote to that is, the firm Supreme Vehicle." Thus, the antidote to the eight obscurations is taught. In this regard, when praising the Buddha Vipashyin, some of the retinue thought, "Our teacher is inferior to him," in order to counteract this denigration of the Buddha, considering the three kinds of equality, it is said that at that time, at that moment, the Buddha Vipashyin appeared.
