Regarding the three Samādhis. First, establishing the sign (rTags dgod pa): That which arises from self, other, both, and without cause does not exist, because there is no arising in ultimate truth. For example, like a rabbit's horn. Things such as the base, path, etc., are also free from the four extremes of arising. This is because the pervasive (khyab byed) is not found. Second, to establish the reason (tshul bsgrub pa), as the property of the subject (phyogs chos) is: If it arises from self, then arising is meaningless, and there would be no end, and it would never arise and not change, etc., there are faults, and it is also contradictory for oneself to do to oneself, therefore it is not reasonable. If it arises from other, then from all causes and non-causes, all fruits and non-fruits would arise, and incompatible things such as flames and darkness would also become too extreme as cause and effect. If it arises from both, then it would become a fault spoken of for both, and because it does not arise from each one, it does not arise from both either. Just as oil does not come from each grain of sand, so it does not come from many gathered together. If it arises from no cause, then it will arise at all times and places, or it will never arise even once, because there is no difference in the cause. Second, this is not an uncertain cause, because it is impossible to have a conceptualization of arising other than the four extremes. The third is: It is not from self, not from other, not from both, not from no cause. Whatever things, wherever they are, there is never any arising. So it is said. Applying this treatise to reasoning, the great scholar Kamalaśīla has explained in the *Madhyamaka-āloka*, and after that many Indian and Tibetan scholars have followed it, and it is also explained here in the same way. However, the two great commentaries (the *Great Commentary*) apply the four vows that prevent arising as a display, and supplement the reasoning from another aspect. Third, regarding the examination of the result, the prevention of arising of existence and non-existence is divided into three, the first is: Whatever exists or does not exist does not arise, because there is no arising in ultimate truth. For example, like the son of a barren woman. Things such as the base, path, etc., whether they exist or not, do not arise. Second, as the property of the subject is: What exists does not arise, because it is not permissible to prove what has already been established, and there is no need for what exists to arise. What does not exist also does not arise, because conditions do not act on it, and it would also be too extreme to cause things like rabbit horns to arise

Second, uncertainty does not exist, because there is no other implication besides the existence and non-existence produced by causes. Third, in the Root Wisdom, it says: "If the result inherently exists, what does the cause create? If the result inherently does not exist, what does the cause create?" Fourth, regarding the reason for dependent origination, the first of the three is: Whatever is dependently originated has no self-nature in ultimate truth, like the illusion arising from the conditions of mantras and medicines. The basis, path, etc., arise dependently. This indicates the certainty of contradiction and pervasion. Second, as a characteristic of phenomena: It is evident that external and internal phenomena arise from their respective causes and conditions, otherwise it would lead to causelessness. Pervasion exists, because if it truly exists, causes and conditions would not take effect, as self-nature does not change. Third, in the Sutra Requested by the Dragon King Sagara, it says: "Whatever is born from conditions is unborn; it has no nature of birth. Whatever depends on conditions is said to be emptiness. Whoever understands emptiness is mindful." In the Root Wisdom, it says: "Whatever is dependent origination is said to be emptiness; it is dependent designation; it is the Middle Way." Second, from faith to respect: What happens from faith? Having great faith in that scripture also generates great respect. Who does this? Anyone who desires the qualities of that scripture, such as creating the four excellences, whether they are of sharp or dull faculties. Towards what? Towards the extensive, intermediate, and concise scriptures that rely on that scripture, or, the "that" here refers to the Prajnaparamita Sutra of the scripture section, and the treatises that rely on it, summarizing its meaning, or other sutras that are consistent with it in subject matter. For what purpose? For the purpose of remembering the words in all circumstances, and understanding all the meanings through hearing, etc. Third, what should be done after respect? After respect, the best wisdom, omniscient wisdom, will be attained. How is it done? Through the wisdom arising from hearing, and the wisdom arising from thinking and meditation, a gradual sequence arises in the initial, middle, and final stages.
