Having completely abandoned these ten things to be abandoned, and relying on the ten virtues that are the opposite of these, one can attain the fifth bhumi. The second is the explanation: In order to obtain gain and respect, being too close to and chatting with renunciates and householders, etc.; being stingy with gain, not easily showing others pure conduct like that of a faithful family; places of assembly, i.e., villages and cities where many people gather; in order to obtain service and respect, praising oneself with praise that speaks of one's own qualities; and slandering others by speaking of their faults; the ten paths of non-virtuous actions such as killing; and boasting of learning and discipline, etc., and not associating with others who have qualities; aversion to non-virtue and attachment to virtue, and evil intelligence such as wrong views; and turning towards all afflictions such as desire, such characteristics of the ten dharmas, completely abandoning and forsaking them, and the opposite of this, not chatting with others for the sake of gain, etc., the ten purifications implied by the meaning, are called the fifth bhumi. Why is it called the Difficult to Purify Bhumi? Because "In order to fully ripen sentient beings, and also to protect one's own mind, it is difficult for the wise to purify, therefore it is called Difficult to Purify." Like this, in order to ripen sentient beings, and by its inverted practice not to defile one's own mind with afflictions, therefore it is very difficult to purify. This is also because, as before, it is realized by not clinging to inherent existence. Here, abandonment refers only to the seeds of the gross things to be abandoned, such as the paths of non-virtuous actions. Regarding the sixth bhumi, the first of the root text and commentary is: Giving, etc., by cultivating the six dharmas to be adopted and abandoning the six dharmas to be abandoned, one can attain the sixth bhumi. The sutra says: When a great bodhisattva abides on the sixth bhumi, he should perfect the six dharmas, namely the six paramitas. Furthermore, one should completely abandon the six dharmas, which six? Namely, one should completely abandon the mind of a shravaka. The second is: On the sixth bhumi, because one has attained the completely pure qualities of the prajnaparamita, the chief of the six paramitas, therefore the six paramitas are perfected.

It is called complete. Among them, due to the complete abandonment of precepts related to unfavorable factors and the single-minded meditation for the benefit of others, the mind that desires to be a Hearer and Solitary Realizer is abandoned; due to the complete perfection of the patience pāramitā of decisive understanding of the Dharma, the fear of not focusing on self-nature is abandoned; due to the complete perfection of the giving pāramitā, the discouragement that arises when a beggar comes to beg, thinking that I cannot fulfill this person's wish, is abandoned; due to the complete perfection of the joy and diligence pāramitā in giving, the unpleasant feeling of voluntarily giving up all possessions is abandoned; due to the complete perfection of skillful means and wisdom pāramitā, the mind of giving to all beggars is abandoned even when one is poor. Like this, abandoning six unfavorable factors and relying on six qualities, it is called the sixth ground by twelve kinds of complete purification. Why is it called the Manifestation Ground? As it is said: "Relying on wisdom to the other shore, Saṃsāra and nirvāṇa, Because these two are manifested, Therefore it is said to be the Manifestation Ground." Thus, because all the Buddha's teachings are manifested. This is also achieved by realizing non-objectification as before. The seventh ground proclaims that twenty things to be abandoned should be abandoned, and that twenty antidotes should be relied upon. Among them, the first part has two parts: the root and the commentary. The first part is "I and" etc., completely severing those twenty faults and possessing twenty antidotes, in this way one can attain the seventh ground. The Sutra says: A Bodhisattva who abides on the seventh ground of the Great Vehicle does not generate twenty dharmas, what are these twenty dharmas? Namely, clinging to self, etc. The second part is: the self of the eater and the mind with a timid nature, and the life that conforms to the same kind, and the person who connects the after-life in saṃsāra, and the cessation that does not connect the after-life after death, and the permanence that exists without change, these six are the common clinging of ordinary beings. The characteristics of saṃsāra and nirvāṇa, and the different kinds as causes, and the aggregates that gather the same kind together, and the elements that are the source of fruits, and the producer that is the door for the arising of mind and mental factors, and abiding in the three realms such as the desire realm from the perspective of the appearance of grasper and grasped, and to this
