Those who abide in the fourth Bodhisattva ground should not abandon these ten dharmas. What are the ten? They are, for example, dwelling in a secluded place, etc. The second is the explanation: Because of the love of solitude, one always dwells in a secluded place one yojana away from the town; because one has no desire for obtaining robes and other possessions, one is content with little; one does not seek better or more than what one has obtained, so one is content; to counteract attachment to food, one begs for alms; one eats in one sitting; one does not take leftover food, these are three. To counteract attachment to dwelling places, one dwells in secluded places, under trees, in places without roofs, and in cemeteries, these are four. To counteract attachment to clothing, one wears the three Dharma robes, wears tattered dust-cloth robes, and wears felt robes. To counteract attachment to bedding, one sits squatting and dwells as is, these two, which is to truly guard the twelve qualities of asceticism, to uphold the precepts, and not to abandon them even for the sake of life and reverence, etc. As it is said: In the Extensive Play Sutra, it says: Those beings who are always attached to excellent forms, pleasant sounds, fragrant smells, excellent tastes, and comfortable touches, are bound by them in evil times, just as birds are bound by the nets of hunters. The qualities of desire have much suffering and harm, always accompanied by fear, always acting as enemies, accompanied by afflictions, like the edge of a sword, like the leaves of a poisonous tree, like a vessel of vomit, abandoned by noble beings. Thus, one scolds by viewing the qualities of desire as faults, and one inclines towards nirvana in accordance with the capacity of the beings to be tamed, and one completely abandons all internal and external things, and one does not become discouraged or timid in accomplishing virtue, and one does not view all things with attachment, thus practicing ten aspects, this is called the fourth ground. Why is it called radiating light? As it is said: The dharmas that are in accordance with enlightenment, are like a fire that burns intensely, because it possesses that, that ground, because it burns the two, possesses radiating light. Thus, because it is close to the blazing fire that burns the two obscurations like firewood. And like the former, it is completely grasped by the aspect of non-apprehension. The fifth ground has two. First, the root is: Familiarity, etc., which is to actually show.
