That which has the power to produce. If the result is without inherent existence, then what does the cause produce? Thus it is. Fourth, regarding the reasoning of dependent origination, there are three parts. First: Whatever is dependently originated is without inherent existence in the ultimate truth, like an illusion produced by the causes and conditions of mantras and medicines. It arises dependently through the basis, path, and so on. This refers to the determination of contradictory pervasion. Second, as a part of the subject: It is manifestly established that external and internal phenomena arise from their respective causes and conditions. Otherwise, it would lead to the fault of being without cause. Pervasion exists, because if it truly exists, the function of cause and condition would not intervene, because the nature does not change. Third: In the Sutra Requested by the Dragon King Sagara, it is said: That which is born from conditions is unborn. For it, there is no nature of arising. That which depends on conditions is said to be empty. Whoever knows emptiness is mindful. Thus it is said. In the Root Wisdom, it is said: Whatever is dependent origination is said to be emptiness. That is established in dependence, that is the Middle Way. Thus it is said. Second, from faith and respect arises reverence: What arises from faith and respect? For that Sutra, with great faith and respect, great reverence also arises. Who? For the merit of that Sutra, those who wish to accomplish the four excellences, whether they are of sharp or dull faculties, can do so. For what? For the extensive, intermediate, and concise scriptures that rely on that Prajnaparamita, or, that "that" refers to the Prajnaparamita Sutra, and what relies on it, the concise treatises on its meaning, or other Sutras that are consistent with the meaning it explains. For what purpose? For the purpose of holding the words in all aspects, and for the purpose of understanding all meanings through hearing and so on. Third: What should be done after reverence? After reverence, one will obtain the supreme perfect enlightenment. How is it done? Through the wisdom that arises from hearing, and the wisdom that arises from thinking and meditating, in the order of arising of the initial, intermediate, and final three. Second: For what reason? Because from hearing arises faith and respect, from faith and respect arises reverence, from reverence one obtains the supreme, therefore it is said. The noble Nagarjuna said: Even once with a pure intention
