Or, according to the Vaibhashikas, it exists with intervals around it, or, according to the Sautrantikas, it exists without touching and without intervals. All three ways are unreasonable. As it is said in the Ornament of the Middle Way: "The nature of the central atom, with which it looks at one atom, if it also looks at other atoms with that same nature, then how can earth, water, etc., not grow? If you say that the face of looking at other atoms is different, then how can the extremely fine atom become a single indivisible entity?" As it is said, with whatever nature the central atom looks at the eastern atom, if it also looks at the atoms in other directions with the same nature, then the atoms in other directions should also be located in the position of the eastern atom. If this is the case, even if many atoms gather, they will not grow into a lump. If you want to avoid this fault and think that you are looking at the atoms located in other directions with different faces, then the central atom will become partial, thus losing the nature of the atom. If the extremely fine atom does not exist, then the substances with limbs composed of it, as well as the five senses such as the eye and the five objects such as form, will be easily proved to be without self-nature, because they are the nature of the accumulation of extremely fine atoms. Because these do not exist, because there is no independent agent and object of perception, the five sense consciousnesses do not exist. Because these do not exist, because there is no immediately preceding condition, the mind consciousness is also without self-nature. Therefore, consciousness does not exist. Since there is no other real existence independent of objects and consciousness, this argument is not unestablished. Second, this argument is not uncertain, because water moons and the like exist in the same category. Moreover, the nature of one and many exists in mutual exclusion, so by excluding other aggregates, it is also established that it retreats from the opposite category. Third, as it is said in the Lankavatara Sutra: "The nature of one and many is abandoned, the form is now in the mirror, it appears but is not there, so is the nature of things." Second, the Vajra Splinters that analyze the cause are divided into three: First, establishing the thesis: It is impossible to arise from self, other, both, and without cause, therefore, there is no arising in the ultimate sense, like a rabbit's horn. Base, path, etc.

Those sentient beings are also free from the four extremes of arising. This is because the pervasive is not observed. Second, to establish the proposition, the aspect of the subject is: if it arises from itself, then arising is meaningless, and there is no end, and it will never change, etc., and it is also contradictory for oneself to do to oneself, so it is also unreasonable. If it arises from other, then from all causes and non-causes, all fruits and non-fruits will arise, and incompatible things such as flames and darkness will also become excessively cause and effect. If it arises from both, then it will become a fault spoken to both, and because it cannot arise from each one, it cannot arise from both, just as sesame oil cannot arise from each grain of sand, so it cannot arise from many gathered together. If it arises from no cause, then it will arise at all times and places, or it will not arise even once, because there is no difference in cause. Second, it is not an uncertain reason, because it is impossible to have a conceptualization of arising other than the four extremes. The third is: not from self, not from other, not from both, not from no cause, whatever things are, wherever they are, arising never exists. So it is said. This treatise combines reasoning, and the great scholar Kamalaśīla explained it in the *Madhyamaka Āloka*, and after that many Indian and Tibetan scholars followed it, and here it is also explained in accordance with it. But the two great commentaries apply the four vows to prevent arising as the establisher, and supplement the reasoning from other aspects. Third, examining the fruit, the prevention of arising from existence and non-existence is divided into three parts, the first is: whether it exists or does not exist, it does not arise, that is, there is no arising in the ultimate sense, like the son of a barren woman. Things like the ground, path, etc., whether they exist or do not exist, also do not arise. Second, the aspect of the subject is: what exists does not arise, because it is not permissible to establish what has already been established, and there is no need for what exists to arise. What does not exist also does not arise, because the function of conditions does not apply to it, and it would also be too extreme to lead to the arising of rabbit horns, etc. Second, it is not an uncertain reason, because in the object produced by the cause, there is no aggregate other than existence and non-existence. The third is, from the *Root Wisdom Treatise*: If the self-nature of the fruit exists, then what is the use of the cause?
