There are gravel and deserts, etc. As it is said in the biography of the venerable Saguna and Grosa, it is said in the sutra that the venerable Grosa lost his way by the sea and wandered in the desert, gradually moving forward. There was a being who, at night, in a beautiful immeasurable palace, experienced the happiness of having the perfect enjoyment of gods and humans. When dawn broke, the immeasurable palace disappeared, and his body fell to the ground, where he was devoured by terrible beasts, experiencing immeasurable great suffering until sunset, and again at night he saw the enjoyment of the wealth of the gods. Grosa asked what was happening. He replied: 'During the day, I kill others, and at night I have the virtues of discipline. This is the good result of that action, and this is the sin I am experiencing.' Then, gradually going forward, during the day he had the wealth of the gods as before, and at night a great Rakshasa woman gnawed at him from all sides, gradually devouring him from the head, experiencing endless suffering, and during the day he saw the enjoyment of the happiness of the gods, and asked as before. He replied: 'At night I am attached to stealing, and during the day I have the virtues of discipline. This is the good result of that action, and this is the sin I am experiencing.' Like that and so on. Second, explaining the animal world. The great place of animals is the outer ocean, where the eight great Naga kings, Joyful, Near Joyful, Giving, Giving Holding, Radiant, Great Black, Land Protector, and Ela's Leaf, also dwell, and also dwell in the seven inner playful oceans. Dragons and scattered animals dwell in all places such as the lands of gods and humans. Third, explaining the world of the pretas. The place of the pretas is located five hundred yojanas below the capital of the king of the central region, where the palace of the king of the pretas, Yama Dharma Raja, dwells. He enjoys the wealth of the gods and has great magical powers, and he shows the results of good and non-good deeds to sentient beings without reversing them, so he is beneficial, so it is said. The sky and the earth are vast.

The other beings belonging to the class of hungry ghosts wander without fixed abodes, each enjoying the fruits of their own karma; these are called the scattered ones. Second, the explanation of the higher realms is in three parts: the measurement of the sun and moon with their rising and setting; the desire realm gods and asuras; and the form realm and formless realm. The first is: How far do the sun and moon travel, and what is their measurement? The sun and moon travel from the summit of Mount Yoke-Bearing, halfway up Mount Sumeru, which is forty thousand leagues from here. The measurement of the moon is fifty leagues in width, and its circumference is three times that. It is made of the nature of water crystal, and the son of the gods, the moon, dwells there. The reason why the moon appears to wax and wane is: when it is close to the sun, the light of the sun strikes the moon, and when its own shadow appears on the opposite side, the moon appears to wane by the amount of the shadow. The closer it is to the sun, the larger the shadow becomes. For example, when a lamp is far from a pillar, the shadow of the pillar is small, and when it is close, it becomes larger. When the sky is empty, the shadow completely obscures the moon, and as the moon moves away from the sun, the shadow gradually becomes smaller, so it appears to wax. The measurement of the sun is fifty-one leagues in width, and its circumference is three times that. It is made of fire crystal below, and the son of the gods, the sun, dwells within it. The way the sun acts in the continents is that in one day and night, it is midnight here, the sun sets in the west, it is noon in the north, and the sun rises in the east, all at the same time, which is when the sky and the sun are equal. These sun and moon are also halfway up Mount Sumeru. With a measurement of fifty-one leagues, midnight, the sun sets, noon and the time of rising are the same. As it says, "Because of being close to the sun, it appears to wane by its own shadow." The second part is the four terraces of Mount Sumeru, on the first of which dwell yakshas holding jeweled vessels in their hands, on the second dwell yakshas holding garlands of flowers, on the third dwell those who are always intoxicated with alcohol, and on the fourth dwell the gods of the four great kings in order. Moreover, the sun and moon, the stars, the seven golden mountains, and the mountains, waters, trees, and forests of Jambudvipa also belong to the gods under the dominion of the four great kings.
