That self distinguished by permanence, etc., is not accepted as the basis or object of the innate ego-grasping mind of worldly beings, because even ignorant children who do not understand the distinction of the self by permanence, etc., view the self and what belongs to the self due to special attachment. If you think that even those who do not know the distinction of permanence and non-arising, etc., will have ego-grasping with that as its object due to the power of familiarity with previous lives, etc., that is not so. Like this: Those who have spent many eons in animals, They have not seen this unborn and permanent, Yet they see application to those ego-grasping ones, Therefore, there is no self other than the aggregates. Any sentient beings who have spent many immeasurable eons in a continuous stream in bad destinies such as animals, even if they have not become accustomed to treatises that teach the self as permanent, etc., in previous lives, etc., even if they have not seen this self distinguished by non-arising and permanence, etc., because they see the application to those who grasp at the aggregates, who of the wise would cling to such a self as the basis of ego-grasping? Therefore, there is no permanent self other than the aggregates. Second, refuting the self that is one with the aggregates, first stating the former position: Because there is no self other than the aggregates, The object of the view of self is only the aggregates. Those who are honored by many of their own groups say, "Because there is no self other than the aggregates according to the reasoning stated above, the object of the view of self is only the aggregates, and therefore, what is called 'self' is nothing else, but only the aggregates." Among them, Some accept all five aggregates as the basis of the view of self, some accept only one mind. Some think that the self, which is the basis or object of the view of self, is all five aggregates, such as form, etc., as it is said: "The Blessed One said: 'Monks, whatever renunciates or brahmins truly follow the view of self, they truly follow the view of only these five aggregates of appropriation.'" Some think that only one mind is the self that is the object of the view of self.

It is said: Because the word "I" is spoken on the mind. If asked: How is it known? Because there is no self to be tamed that is different from the aggregates, and other sutras also say to tame the mind, such as: Taming the mind is good, taming the mind brings happiness. Thus it is said. There are two refutations to this: the actual refutation and the conclusion of the refutation. The first also has: stating the harm, refuting the proof, showing that it is imputed based on it, and becoming the fault of not abandoning self-view. The first is: If the aggregates are the self, then therefore, because there are many, that self also becomes many. The self becomes a substance, and looking there, because of clinging to the substance, it will not be reversed. If the aggregates are the self, then therefore, because the aggregates have many aspects due to the differences of form, etc., so the self also becomes many. According to which view, the mind is the self, according to that view, also because of the differences of eye consciousness, etc., or because the consciousness that arises and ceases in each moment has many, so the self also becomes many. As it is said: When the world is born, one person is born, from that sutra, it is not allowed to have many selves. Substances such as form and feeling, which become different due to differences such as past, are called aggregates, and only the aggregates are said to be the self, so the self becomes established as a substance, then, monks, these five are only names, only designations, only establishments, which five? Past time and future time, and space and nirvana, and also called the person. Similarly, as it is said: Just as the assembly of limbs, based on which a chariot is said, similarly based on the aggregates, it is said conventional sentient being. From this, it is not allowed. If the self is a substance, the bad collection view with the nature of seeing the self, because of clinging to the object of the existing substance, just like the consciousness of blue and yellow, etc., the way of clinging will not be reversed, therefore the bad collection view cannot be abandoned in a way that does not arise, just like the eye, etc.
