Having thus understood, the Knower of the World revealed it to people. Those beings who delight in abiding in this cycle of existence will fall into the eight worldly dharmas, namely, gain and loss, pleasant and unpleasant, praise and blame, happiness and suffering. When they gain something, they develop attachment to it; when they do not gain it, they become agitated by it. Through this way of not having been taught, it can be understood that these eight diseases will cut off their continuity. Those who speak of conventional truth as ultimate truth should be known to possess erroneous wisdom. Those who regard the impure as pure, who regard suffering as happiness, who speak of the selfless nature as self, who speak of impermanent dharmas as permanent, and who delight in abiding in characteristics in this way, upon hearing the words of the Sugata, will fear and abandon non-veridical thoughts. Those who abandon the words of the Sugata will experience unbearable suffering in hell. Those who seek happiness in an improper way will experience hundreds of sufferings like children. Whoever, with uncomprehending wisdom, can also discern the teachings that benefit the world, will completely abandon them like an old snake's skin, and having transcended all existence, will attain peace. All these dharmas are empty in nature, emptiness and signlessness are the ultimate truth, whoever hears this and generates joy will attain unsurpassed enlightenment. Victorious One, you see the aggregates as empty, the elements and sources are also the same, the city of the senses is empty of signs, everything is like that, O Sage, you see it thus. Thus it is said. The concise meaning of this sutra should be understood in two ways: namely, the general exposition of the two truths, and the detailed explanation of their respective natures. First, the verse beginning with "Knower of the World," etc. Second, it is further divided into the detailed explanation of conventional truth, which is divided into three points: the necessity of expounding conventional truth, the nature of the conventional truth that is expounded, and the faults of attachment to it. First, the verse beginning with "Whoever, with the Sugata," etc. Second, it is further divided into what is expounded and from what cause it is expounded. First, from "Sentient beings," etc., up to "Unequaled One." Second, is conventional truth.

The wise understand these two lines: "afterward." Regarding the faults of clinging to conventional truth, there are two types: the fault of engaging in worldly dharmas and the fault of abandoning transcendent dharmas. The first is from "rejoicing in this" to "eight diseases." The second is from "regarding that conventional" to "hundreds of sufferings." Second, elaborating on the ultimate truth also includes the necessity of explaining the ultimate, the nature of the ultimate to be explained, the benefits of having faith in it, and the cause of explaining it based on what. The first is the verse "benefiting the world." The second is the two lines "all these dharmas." The third is the two lines "whoever hears." The fourth is the verse "victor, you," and so on. Here it is said: If you say that we are very unnecessary to you, then now we will not tolerate you either. If you consider yourself skilled only in refuting others and eliminate the nature of others because it is unreasonable, then now I will eliminate the conventional truth recognized by you because of the unreasonableness of what I have said, such as non-origination. Just as you consider other-dependence to be real, I have not acknowledged conventional truth. For the sake of results, these are not real but exist nominally, and I say this in front of the world. Just as you are displeased when other-dependence is eliminated by the reason I have stated, we will not be displeased by the elimination of conventional truth. Just as you consider that other-dependence, which is free from all elaboration through independence, is a real entity to be realized by the wisdom of the noble ones, we Madhyamikas have not acknowledged that conventional truth is established through independence. Then, how do you acknowledge conventional truth? Because the result of guiding the world is also necessary. Therefore, these conventional truths are not real in reality, but they exist from the perspective of nominality, and I say this facing the world. To speak of it afterward is a means of dispelling it.
