If, concerning the two refutations of the real and the similar. The first is: If you think that the cause meets the effect and produces the result, then, because the power is the same, the cause and the effect will be no different; if they do not meet, then the cause and the non-cause will be no different; abandoning these two, there will be no other distinctions. If according to your view, cause and effect are established by their own nature, then do they arise after meeting, or do they arise without meeting? If the cause meets the effect and produces the result, just as the water of the river and the ocean meet without distinction, because the power becomes one, therefore the distinction of "this is the cause, this is the effect" will no longer exist. If it arises without meeting, then just as other effects that do not meet do not arise, the effect that is considered will also not arise. Or, for each of the effect and the non-effect, all causes and non-causes will arise, because not meeting is the same. Therefore, cause and non-cause will be no different. For those who claim that cause and effect are established by their own nature, apart from these two distinctions of meeting and not meeting, there is no third distinction, therefore the cause established by its own nature does not produce the effect. Therefore, if the cause does not produce the effect, because there is no effect, then the cause separated from the effect will become causeless, which is not what you want. If the cause does not produce the effect, because there is no effect, therefore the cause separated from the effect, as the cause referred to by the name of the cause, will become the cause of causelessness, because the designation of the name of the cause depends on the effect. You either think that the cause is the cause of causelessness, or you do not think so, therefore cause and effect do not exist by their own nature. What are cause and effect like in your view? Because these two are similar to illusion, therefore, I have no fault, and worldly things also exist. For those who claim that cause and effect are established by their own nature, the above-mentioned distinctions will arise. According to my view, things are produced by false discriminations, and are similar to illusion in themselves, without self-nature. Although there is no self-nature, they become objects of cognition, like the hairs seen by those with cataracts.

Indeed, there is nothing to examine. Therefore, for the Madhyamikas, it is meaningless to examine whether cause and effect meet or do not meet, and there are also things in the world that are established without examination, so everything is established. Second, refuting similarities. First, establishing the similarity: Saying like this, does the cause arise from meeting the effect, or does it arise without meeting? Whatever is said like this, the refutation and examination are the same for you as well. How is it? Does this refutation refute by meeting the refuted, or does it refute without meeting? Isn't this fault the same for you as well? Abandoning these two situations, there is no other distinction. You, Madhyamika, use refutation to prevent the self-nature of cause and effect from being established. Does this refutation refute by meeting the refuted, or does it refute without meeting? When examining like this, isn't the fault mentioned earlier the same for you as well? Abandoning these two distinctions, there is no other distinction of using refutation to prevent the refuted. Therefore, speaking like that and only destroying one's own sect, then you cannot refute the refuted. When speaking like that, just as mentioned before, only one's own sect will be destroyed, because the power of your own refutation being refuted will cause cause and effect to be established by self-nature. When that happens, you, Madhyamika, cannot refute the self-nature of cause and effect being established by the refuted. Furthermore, because one's own words also have the same fault, and because one slanders all things without reason, you will not be recognized by the noble ones, and because you have no own sect, are you attacking randomly? Regarding this, it has already been said that one's own words also have the same fault. If the cause arises without meeting, will it produce all the results that do not meet, or will nothing be produced? Saying this is unreasonable. Like this, even if it is the same as not meeting, the magnet attracts the iron that is in a suitable position, but it does not attract all of it. Similarly, the eyes do not meet, but only when they are in a suitable position can they see things, but they cannot see everything. Similarly, the cause also produces results without meeting.
