Devoid of inherent existence. If things had some inherent existence, since there would be no other possible way of conceiving of arising, if it were necessary to arise from any of the four extremes, what would be the reason? As stated above, since there is no arising from self, from other, from both, and without dependence on causes, therefore things are devoid of inherent existence. In conventional terms, having abandoned the analysis of the four extremes, saying that a sprout arises from a seed, and so forth, this mere dependent arising is not something to be refuted. If it is said that whether seed and sprout are the same or different is easy, and one cannot transcend the conception of arising from self, etc., then if seeds and sprouts had even a little inherent existence, it would be reasonable that one could not transcend the conception of same or different. However, these are like dreams, without even a little inherent existence. The conception of same and different, etc., is not reasonable, because same and different, etc., are the nature of things. If it is said that if the seed has no inherent existence, then the sprout will arise from no cause, if one accepts that the seed is completely non-existent like a rabbit's horn, that fault would occur, but it does not have true inherent existence, but it is not completely non-existent, because the term 'seed' is seen. Therefore, when Madhyamikas say that all phenomena are without inherent existence, this is not an acceptance of complete non-existence, but rather, like illusions, etc., they speak of false inherent existence. Similarly, even when accepting conventional existence, since no inherent existence whatsoever is accepted, it is meaningless to argue against the position of emptiness. Second, refuting the argument is divided into two, first, refuting the argument that it does not become the path of seeing: If there is no inherent existence, then how do these appear before us and become the path of seeing? The dense darkness of ignorance, like a mass of clouds, obscures the world, therefore objects appear wrongly. Just as a mass of rain clouds obscures the nature of the sky, because the darkness of ignorance obscures the world from seeing the emptiness of inherent existence such as blue, therefore the objects of children appear wrongly.

also becomes the object. Depending on the power of being obscured by ignorance, the true nature is not seen. How does one see it in a reversed way? Because of the power of ignorance, even what is not like that appears as such, in order to clarify this with an example: Due to the power of cataracts, some people perceive hairs, double moons, and peacock feathers and bees, etc., as real. Similarly, due to the power of ignorance, the unwise understand various compounded things with their minds. Just as due to the power of cataracts, those with cataracts perceive non-existent hairs and double moons, etc., as real, similarly, due to the power of ignorance, unwise children also understand various internal and external compounded things as truly existing with their deluded minds. How does this illusion of appearing as non-existent come to be understood? Actions arise dependent on ignorance; without ignorance, they do not arise. Only the unwise understand it in this way. The sun of wisdom completely dispels the darkness, and the wise, having realized emptiness, are liberated. Actions such as merit and non-merit arise dependent on ignorance, which is the nature of clinging to a self, which is the cause of clinging to things as real. As it is said in the sutra: "Conditioned by ignorance are actions." And, "This person associated with ignorance accumulates merit, accumulates non-merit, and accumulates unwavering actions." Because it is said. Without ignorance, these actions do not arise, because it is said, "When ignorance ceases, actions cease." Thus, only the unwise children think that actions, etc., truly arise from ignorance and cling to them. However, the wise, whose sun of excellent wisdom that sees the truth of reality completely dispels the darkness of ignorance, when they realize that actions arise conditioned by ignorance, also realize that actions are empty of inherent existence, thereby abandoning ignorance and not clinging to actions. Therefore, they are liberated from samsara. Secondly, if there is no inherent existence, then in terms of conventional truth,
