Because there is no snake on the rope. The reality of a snake is that the snake itself is fully established, because grasping a rope as a snake is not an imputation of conceptual proliferation. Self-nature is also an imputation of conceptual proliferation on dependent arising. When children grasp dependent arising as self-nature or own being, just like a snake appearing on a rope, dependent arising does not have self-nature, because dependent arising is an artificial phenomenon born from causes and conditions, and self-nature is not like that. As it is said in the scriptures: "Self-nature is uncreated and does not depend on others." This is what is said. That self-nature is real in emptiness, which is the realm of the Buddhas, because they manifest and realize the uncreated self-nature of all phenomena, therefore they are called Buddhas. Thus, conventional dependent arising is dependent on causes and conditions, so it is other-powered. Self-nature, reality, and the uncreated essence are imputations of conceptual proliferation on conventional dependent arising, and emptiness is the nature of perfect reality in ultimate truth, this should be understood. The Mind-Only school believes that the conceptual proliferation of consciousness that is devoid of meaning and untrue is other-powered, and the apprehended and the apprehender are imputations of conceptual proliferation. That other-powered itself is empty from the beginning by conceptual proliferation, they consider it to be perfectly established, but in the world, there is no other-powered other than the readily available apprehender and apprehended, therefore their assertion of the three natures is also not established. The meaning of what is said in the Sutra school that there is no conceptual proliferation, but there is other-powered, is that dependent arising exists in name, and those who assert their own and others' tenets grasp it as a true self-nature, which is not established even in name. The Mind-Only school believes that other-powered is substantially established, and conceptual proliferation exists in name, but does not exist in reality, although they explain it this way, but the other-powered is substantially established, which has been refuted before, and the apprehender that they accept as conceptual proliferation

Although there is nomenclature, it is other-dependent because it is dependent arising, not completely imputed. To completely impute a non-artificial nature onto it is something that does not even exist in nomenclature. Moreover, in the sutras, it is said that the completely imputed is the nature of the absence of nature, the other-dependent is the nature of the absence of arising, and the perfectly established is the ultimate absence of nature. The meaning of this is very consistent with the three natures of the Madhyamaka school. The completely imputed does not exist even in nomenclature, like the horns of a rabbit, because it is not established by its own characteristics. The other-dependent, like a magic trick, does not arise from its own nature, but depends on other causes and conditions. The perfectly established is the nature of emptiness even in nomenclature, so it is also without nature, and because it is not deceptive, it is also the ultimate truth. According to the view of the Mind-Only school, the other-dependent is not the absence of arising, because it is accepted that it arises from others in the ultimate sense. Having explained the cessation of arising from others along with its implications, now we will explain the refutation of arising from both. There are two parts to this: the actual refutation and the conclusion. First, the naked ascetics say that external and internal objects arise from both self and other. For example, when a pot is desired to arise from a lump of clay, a stick, a wheel, and a potter, it arises from its own nature because the clay and the pot are not different. It also arises from others because the potter and the wheel are different from the pot. Similarly, internal objects also arise from both self and other. Why? Because Maitreya takes this birth only with the nature of life in other lifetimes, so it arises from self, because Maitreya and life are not different. Why? Because it arises from parents, dharma, non-dharma, outflows, and other things that have become other, so it arises from others. Therefore, when self-arising and other-arising are refuted, it does not harm us, because we do not accept that it arises only from self or only from other. That is also not reasonable.
