Having made no attachment whatsoever in the manner of attention, one engages in acceptance and rejection of all terms of temporary and ultimate acceptance and rejection, without any difference from those who are attached. As long as conceptualization has not ceased, it is in order to unerringly comprehend the path of dependent arising, which is the nature of merely these conditions. Therefore, since they are not attached to anything, they do not abide in the extreme of permanence, and since they engage in all acceptance and rejection, they do not abide in the extreme of annihilation; therefore, they abide in the Middle Way, having abandoned permanence and annihilation. When the sphere of phenomena, which is free from all elaboration, is directly realized, there is no engagement in acceptance and rejection because it is free from all disputes. However, it does not become the fault of annihilation, because having abandoned all conceptualization, the connection of cause and effect is not apprehended. Since worldly terms and the terms of other proponents of tenets are equally of false meaning, why do Madhyamikas accept worldly terms but not those of proponents of tenets? Because worldly terms are the object of non-conceptual activity, they can be accepted without the inclusion of rational justification, and therefore, accepting them does not contradict the Madhyamika's tenet of being free from all positions, and through it, it is also possible to guide the world. All proponents of tenets, however, establish their own positions after including rational justification, so their terms cannot be accepted without including rational justification. Even if some positions are accepted after including rational justification, the Madhyamika's own position will be lost. Therefore, although they are equally of erroneous meaning, worldly terms are accepted, but not the terms of imputation by proponents of tenets. Just as worldly terms are accepted as a means of guiding the world, is it also reasonable to accept their systems in front of others in order to guide other proponents of tenets? If, in order to gradually lead those of inferior intelligence to the teachings, one temporarily accepts the positions of higher and higher tenets and refutes the systems of lower and lower ones, that is also unreasonable.
