Therefore, from that which has been experienced, I have no other thought. Therefore, I will think "I saw it," which is merely the custom of worldly speech. The previously experienced state, the subsequent thought is not other, because the previous experience has disappeared. Because it is not other, therefore what has been experienced is not what the thought has not experienced, and what has been completely cut off by experience is also not what has not been completely cut off by thought, therefore I will think "I saw it." If one remembers because it is not other, then will the previous experience of Devadatta be remembered by the present thought of Yajnadatta? Therefore, this is merely the custom of worldly speech, and should not be excessively investigated, because worldly speech is all false. Therefore, in worldly speech, for experiences and thoughts of different continuums, it is not said to be not other, but only one's own previous experience and subsequent thought are said to be other, because one will say "I experienced such before." If it is not other, but the same, why does one say "I experienced" of one's own previous experience, but not say so of another's experience? This should not be refuted and examined by us, but should be refuted and examined by the worldly person who says this himself. Furthermore, the Madhyamikas do not want to establish that thought is some kind of real entity, but merely to establish conventional truth, refuting only those opponents who consider thought unreasonable. If experience and thought are different objects, like consciousnesses of different continuums, thought would become unreasonable. Because the object is not other, therefore there is no unreasonableness in thought, this is to show this point. Those who think that both experience and thought are real existents, according to their view, because they are different things, it is not reasonable that the previous experience could be the later thought, just like consciousnesses of different continuums. Even if it is the same continuum, it is also not established as cause and effect, just like consciousnesses of different continuums, because they are different. Therefore, according to their view, thought is unreasonable, therefore it is a conventional establishment.
