Because even in dreams, the experience of awareness that clearly perceives blue and other colors is present, it is necessary to acknowledge the eye and the eye-consciousness. The cause of such a false sense faculty is also sleep, since no other cause is observed. Because it is so, in dreams as well, that real eye should be acknowledged as the cause of the awareness of false objects. Therefore, in dreams as well, it should be acknowledged that the eye, which is a false entity or nature, is the cause of awareness of objects of false nature, because without the sense faculties such as the eye, the awareness of objects such as forms and sounds is not seen. Thus, whatever answers are given to this, they are seen as the same as the proposition, and this debate is eliminated. When the Madhyamikas explain that all three, objects, sense faculties, and consciousness, are without inherent existence, the response of this proponent of consciousness-only, who argues that objects are not real but consciousness is real, is: waking consciousness is empty of meaning, because it is consciousness, like dream consciousness. Objects in the waking state are also of a false nature, because they are objects, like dream objects. Similarly, defilement and purification do not exist without dependence on others, because they have no basis, like a garment made of turtle hair, etc. Whatever is asserted is seen by the wise Madhyamikas as the same as the proposition and unable to be established, therefore these debates of the consciousness-only proponents are eliminated. Similarly, in proving that consciousness is not real, there is no fault such as scriptural contradiction, because the Buddhas have never taught that anything exists. As it is said in the noble *Laṅkāvatāra Sūtra*: The three realms are mere designations, in reality there are no entities. Those who speculate will imagine designations to be real entities. Without inherent existence and without consciousness-only, without a basis and without entities, bad children, speculators, contemplate these like corpses. Therefore, it is said here: The yogi, relying on the guru's instructions, sees the earth filled with skeletons. If awareness cannot exist without an object, then the yogi, relying on the guru's instructions, through the practice of contemplating impurity...

If someone asks, how does one visualize the earth as being filled with skeletons during meditation? To that, one should visualize that all three are without arising. This is to show that one clings to wrong views. When a yogi visualizes the earth as being filled with skeletons, the object, sense faculty, and consciousness are all without arising. Because, that samadhi is not clinging to suchness, but clinging to wrong views, as explained in the scriptures. Therefore, one must accept this view without doubt. Otherwise, if the objects of your sensory consciousness can also be transformed by impure thoughts, then when one person focuses on an object, another person can also realize it in the same way, then that realization is not false. If the objects perceived by sensory consciousness, such as skeletons and other impure things, can also be transformed into reality by the mind that meditates on impurity, then when a sensory consciousness abides in an acceptable object, just as one person sees it, others can also see it. Similarly, when a yogi visualizes objects such as skeletons, if others also want to see skeletons and focus on this object, then others, that is, non-yogis, can also realize this. Because, the object exists as it appears. Furthermore, meditation will not cling to false or unreal things. Similarly, like a person with cataracts. What a person with cataracts sees is different from ordinary people, similarly, one should understand that pretas see pus and blood in rivers, and so on. In order to summarize the meaning of the explained unknowable consciousness, in short, as mentioned above, the knowable is emptiness, similarly, the mind is also emptiness, please understand this principle.
