If the guides of the world do not conform to the world, then what is the Dharma-nature of the Buddha? No one will understand the Buddha. Considering the aggregates, realms, and sources to be of the same nature, and showing these three realms, this is conforming to the world. Even the nameless dharmas are proclaimed to sentient beings with inconceivable names, this is conforming to the world. Showing the non-existent, abiding in the Buddha-nature, without abandoning any non-existent, this is conforming to the world. Not observing meaning and meaninglessness, cessation and ultimate meaning, which are the supreme words spoken by the speakers, this is conforming to the world. Without destruction and without arising, being equal to the Dharmadhatu, yet showing the kalpa of burning, this is conforming to the world. In the three times, not fixating on the nature of sentient beings, and also showing the realm of sentient beings, this is conforming to the world. Thus, it is extensively spoken.

When (wisdom) becomes extremely increased, it is in order to thoroughly realize, in the manner of individual self-awareness, that inexpressible consciousness that is free from the apprehended and the apprehender. If it is merely meaningless consciousness, then how does the consciousness that appears as form and other things arise? Just as the ocean is stirred by the wind, and waves arise from the great, so from the storehouse consciousness, which is the seed of all, arises a mere consciousness of its own power. Just as the great ocean is stirred by the wind, and the large and small waves arise according to the conditions, so from the storehouse consciousness, which is the seed of all defiled dharmas, by establishing the consciousness that is manifestly attached to the apprehended and the apprehender, which has been transmitted from one to another since beginningless time, its own power is fully matured, and a mere consciousness that appears as the apprehended and the apprehender arises, while children discriminate between the apprehended and the apprehender, but in reality, there is no apprehended that is different from consciousness. For example, those who assert that Ishvara is the cause say: the cow is the cause of the sound of the cow, the crystal is the likeness of water, the limbs are the likeness of the parts of the body, he is the cause of all sentient beings. Similarly, those who assert the storehouse consciousness also say: the storehouse consciousness itself is the cause of all sentient beings, Ishvara is permanent, while the storehouse consciousness is impermanent, this is merely the difference. Because the establishment of the sutras is just like this. Therefore, what is the nature of the other? It is the cause of things that are nominally existent, and it arises without an external apprehended object, existence and all elaborations are not objects, but are inherently existent. Therefore, the nature of the other, which is the non-veridical completely conceptualized, must be admitted to be the cause of the fabricated by persons and the nominally existent things of dharmas, otherwise, since there is no basis for delusion, nothing can be mistaken for self and dharma. For example, the cause of mistaking a rope for a snake is the rope, it is impossible without the rope; the cause of mistaking clay for a pot is the clay, it is impossible without the clay.

Just as one cannot rely on the sky. Therefore, this other-powered nature arises as the essence of self-appearance as two, without an external object of apprehension, and it exists as a real entity as the basis for imputation of self and phenomena, and it exists in a nature that is beyond all elaboration, words, and concepts, because words and concepts are the objects of imputation. The other-powered nature is the object of the subsequent attainment of pure worldly beings. These are the views of the Mind-Only school. Second, to refute it, there are three points: refuting the knowledge without an object of knowledge, refuting the real establishment of the other-powered nature that is non-dual, and explaining the intention of the Mind-Only teachings. The first point is: refuting the analogy of knowledge without an external object, and also refuting other proofs of the absence of an external object. The first point has two parts: refuting the analogy of the delusion of mind-consciousness. Because consciousness is distinguished by the cognition of objects, to those who say only consciousness because they have not seen consciousness without an object, it is asked: Where is the example of mind without an external object? It is said: Like a dream. For example, when one lies down in a very small room and falls asleep, when one dreams that a herd of elephants is crowded into the room, the object does not exist as it appears, because there is no space in the room to accommodate a herd of elephants. Similarly, if it is said that all consciousness arises without existence, then, in order to show that it is also meaningless, it should be considered. It is said, meaning that it should be examined whether or not knowledge without an object is established in a dream. Why is that? Because, when I do not have mind even in a dream, then your example does not exist. When, according to my Madhyamaka view, there is no true mind not only in the waking state but also in the dream state, then the example of a dream that you, the Mind-Only school, have put forward is not an example for establishing true knowledge. If, when awake, mind arises from the memory of a dream, then external objects will also exist in the same way. If it is said that when awake, the delusion of mind is established from the memory of experiencing the delusion of consciousness in a dream, then, just as consciousness exists in a dream, external objects will also exist.
