Because it possesses the qualities of bhavaṅga, if it transforms into agreeable birth, mindfulness, etc., then the puruṣa, i.e., the self, will also not be permanent, because it is transformative. Furthermore, when this life or self possesses qualities such as pleasure, pain, equanimity, etc., just as the qualities such as pleasure, pain, equanimity, etc., are different, the self associated with them should also be seen as various and different. Otherwise, there would be no need to posit pleasure, etc., as different qualities. Because when related to pleasure, etc., it arises in accordance with them, therefore, just as pleasure, etc., are impermanent, the self also cannot be permanent. The word "also" eliminates all agents, enjoyers, and oneness, etc. Secondly, refuting the self of the Sāṃkhyas: According to the view that the puruṣa is not a sentient being, this fault will occur. If, according to us, the puruṣa is of the nature of knowledge, then there is nothing undesirable, if you say so. That is also unreasonable. Like this: If the self of the puruṣa who enjoys objects has knowledge and is permanent, then when he enjoys objects, the functions of the eyes, etc., will be reversed and become meaningless, because his own nature is always present. For that which fire does not arise without fuel, for the sake of fire, fuel is meaningful. If fire were to arise constantly without fuel, then the fuel would not become meaningful. If the puruṣa is the nature of the power possessed by knowledge, and he is also the enjoyer of objects. The nature of the action of enjoying objects is the nature of having knowledge, and it also depends on the functions of the eyes, etc., so there is no fault as stated above, if you say so. If having knowledge is the nature of action, then this will not go beyond the dharma of action. In that case, just as the action that depends on the substance of a tree, the movement of being moved by the wind, will become another movement even before the tree is destroyed, so too, the nature of enjoying objects, this having knowledge, will also disappear before the substance puruṣa is destroyed. That is also unreasonable. The nature of enjoying objects, having knowledge, is the puruṣa's

Because it is non-different from its own nature. Therefore, just as action depends on substance, and substance does not move upwards, substance does not depend on other substances, and there is no movement from its own birth to its destruction. Having the knowledge of the nature of the enjoyer is also the nature of the substance-person, therefore, there is a person before enjoying the object. Because there is no perception of enjoying the object, it is unreasonable to say that the function of the eye, etc., is meaningful in order to prove this. If it is said that even if there is no perception before enjoying the object, there is a person because there is its ability. Then, just as the person who is different from perception is not seen at the time of enjoying the object, there is no person who is different from perception at the time of not enjoying the object, so there is no ability based on the person at that time. Furthermore, if it is recognized that this person exists in the form of the ability of perception before the nature of the manifestation of perception, then, have you seen the realm of existence of perception earlier than the stage of existence of perception? Have you seen the existence of perception itself beyond the stage of the realm of existence of perception? For example, just as molten iron later becomes an iron block, the previous realm of existence of perception later becomes the form of manifestation of existence of perception, therefore, the person will change, and because it will change, the statement that there is no permanent self is established. Third, refuting the self of the rationalists: Some say: Our person is not the nature of the existence of perception. Then what is it? A part of the self is a tiny atom, connected with mind, from which perception arises. Therefore, the existence of perception is only in the part connected with mind, not in all, because the person pervades everything and is as vast as the sky. Because the existence of perception is only a part connected with mind, and the person is as vast as the sky, it is visible that the nature of the self is not the existence of perception itself. The part of the tiny atom is connected with perception, and the person will not become with perception because of this, just as the salt of the tiny part is connected with the water of the Ganges, it cannot be said that the water of the Ganges contains salt. Furthermore, if this self
