Nirvana is attained through the path of uniting quiescence and insight. Among these, insight is the primary one, and quiescence is not primary. As the praisers say: Those who do not incline towards your teachings, people blinded by ignorance, even if they reach the peak of existence, can only create the arising of suffering. And, those who follow your teachings, even if they have not attained the actual practice of meditation, can dispel all existences like shattering the cataract of a demon's eye. It is said like this. Therefore, those who desire liberation should first cultivate quiescence to the point where the mind is workable. After that, starting from establishing mindfulness, they should strive in the yoga of meditating on the two kinds of selflessness with the wisdom of individual self-awareness. By merely meditating on the abiding of the mind without the wisdom of individual self-awareness, even worldly detachment cannot be attained, let alone liberation. Third, abandoning the places that should not be thought about, one should realize dependent origination. In order to dispel the things that should not be thought about, which have become obstacles to the correct view of the path to nirvana, (it is said in the scriptures:) The fourteen unrevealed things in the world, whatever the Sun's Kinsman has well spoken, one should not think about those things, because they do not make the mind peaceful. Thus it is said, the fourteen unrevealed views are what the Sun's Kinsman, the Buddha Bhagavan, spoke of in a long discourse, as follows: The self and the world are permanent or impermanent, both permanent and impermanent, neither permanent nor impermanent. These are the four based on the past extreme. The self and the world have an end or no end, both have an end and no end, neither have an end nor no end. These are the four based on the future extreme. The Tathagata exists or does not exist after death, both exists and does not exist, neither exists nor does not exist. These are the four based on nirvana. The body is the same as life, the body is different from life. These are the two based on body and life. Among these, life is a synonym for self. Why is it called unrevealed? Because some non-Buddhists asked the Tathagata about these meanings, and the Tathagata knew that they were asking starting from the permanence of the self. If he answered permanent or impermanent, etc., then they would be analyzing the differentiated dharmas without a basis of differentiation, not

Thinking that it is reasonable. If you deny that the characteristic is selfless, then it is actually meaningless. Therefore, not making a prophecy, so it is called not making a prophecy. Or, I (Sanskrit: ātman) am a person who is nominally established based on the aggregates. The world is the five aggregates of clinging. Because they arise interdependently, they have no self-nature. Therefore, it cannot be established as permanent or impermanent, etc. As it is said: Whatever arises interdependently, that is by nature peaceful. Therefore, they should not be prophesied as permanent or impermanent, etc. Considering that they are not containers of profound meaning, it is also not said that dependent origination is without self-nature. Therefore, it is called not making a prophecy. As it is said: In the Ratnavali, if asked, does the world have an end? The Victorious One remains silent. Because such a profound Dharma is not spoken to beings who are not vessels. Therefore, the wise know that the Omniscient One is all-knowing. Thus it is said. Do not think about those views, because what can be thought about and has benefits after thinking is what should be thought about. For these, because there is no characteristic, it cannot be thought about. If you think about it, you will be entangled by the snake of evil views, and the poison of afflictions will increase. Therefore, thinking about them does not calm the mind. What can be thought about and has the benefit of obtaining peace after thinking is dependent origination. To show this, from ignorance arises karma, from karma arises consciousness, from consciousness arises name and form, from name and form arises the six sense sources, from the six sense sources arises contact, this is what the Muni said. From contact arises feeling, from feeling arises craving, from craving arises grasping, from grasping arises becoming, from becoming arises birth. If there is birth, there will be sorrow, aging, suffering from desire, fear from death, etc. A huge mass of suffering will arise. The cessation of birth can cause all of this to cease. Thus it is said. The Muni Bhagavan said in the Sutra of Dependent Origination: Bhikshus, when this exists, that exists; when this arises, that arises. For example, with ignorance as the condition.
