Having observed that non-Buddhist teachers do not acknowledge the relationship of karma and its result, Samkhya and others investigate, saying that the basis for the relationship of karma and its result is "self." The Naiyayikas do not see a pervasive "self." The Lokayatas think that a person is merely an object of sense consciousness. "O good woman, what the learned say is like the tracks of a jackal." And so forth, also shows no-self. Just as the hair seen by someone with cataracts is not seen by someone without cataracts, the self-nature of self and no-self, etc., that ordinary people investigate is not seen by the noble ones. The Buddhas, the Bhagavat, say, "Neither self nor no-self exists." If the Buddhas did not teach self and no-self, then what did they teach? The object of speech ceases, because the object of mind ceases. The nature of the unborn and unceasing, is the same as nirvana. If there were something to be said here, then it would be taught. When, in the ultimate truth, the object of speech ceases and the object of words does not exist, then the Buddhas teach nothing at all. Why is there no object of speech? If there were an object of mind, then some reason would be established there, and then words would be used. Because the object of mind ceases, therefore words cannot be used. Why is there no object of mind? Because the nature of the unborn and unceasing, its self-nature is established as the same as nirvana, therefore the mind cannot operate there. Third, the order of teaching Suchness is: If the nature of the unborn and unceasing is the same as nirvana, so speech and mind cannot operate there. Even so, if it is not taught, then the beings to be tamed will not be able to understand, so in order to allow the beings to be tamed to enter it, it is necessary to rely on conventional truth to explain the order of teaching it. Here, it should be understood that the order of teaching the Buddhas to enter the nectar of Suchness is: all is true, all is not true, true and not true, not true and not true, not true.
